That is exactly right brent. It's all about bad judgement. I am an excellent driver when I want to be. I know how to handle a car very well. I think going over 2 years without a license, and sitting in jail 25 days is enough to fix me. I just want my life back that I took for granted.

Learning to make the right decision even when its the "tough/boring/notcool path" to follow is what josh needs.

Doesnt matter what car he buys.

Sheltering a person wont teach them. Fixing the real problem instead of some stupid bandaid is what you do when you want to help someone.

Come to VA and buy my 74 Formula Firebird... It would make a great project car! 455 Cubic Inches and a TH400 tranny in it...

Guys,

While I can certainly understand the feelings of "he screwed up, so let him deal with it", I think you have missed one important point. He is admitting that it was his mistake in judgment, and seems to be trying to work through it. He has been dealing with the consequences of his actions for a while now, and seems like he has realized the error of his ways, and has learned from it. Rather than being critical, how about some support?

my point was just that the things josh is going through are what will help him, not putting him in a geo metro. That wont solve anything.

"my point was just that the things josh is going through are what will help him, not putting him in a geo metro. That wont solve anything."

This is NOT ment to be offensive to 93Sundance (or anyone else, for that matter), but PART of the reason he's in the mess he's in, is due to his driving habits. Driving on a suspended license (multiple times), Evading police not once, but twice, DUI, wrecking into a house, leaving the scene of an accident, which in turn, led to a false police report, etc. Admitting that he screwd up is only PART of fixing the problem. He has to take accountability for his actions ...but I just re-read his original post about how this whole mess came about, and I'm not so sure he's fully accepted responsibility for everything that he did. He was pretty adamant that his Pot smoking was "OK", and that doing 25 days in jail should make everything OK now. Well first of all, he's a felon, and Pot is illegal. That's ALL it's going to take to put him RIGHT BACK where he started. I don't care what your standing on pot are. If he gets the Pee test from his probation officer, he'd going RIGHT BACK to jail.
He needs to learn to walk the straight and narrow for a while, and avoid any temptations that may put him right back in trouble.

I'm not trying to tell him how to live his life...just giving him some direction on how to fix the mess he's in. He can take it, or leave it.

A few final parting words....now that he is a convicted felon, getting a "good" job is going to take some effort on his part to PROVE he's serious about fixing his life. He needs to avoid those things that contributed to his initial downfall. One of those things, was his Sundance and his driving habits.

I sincerely hope that Josh has turned his life around. But going fast is almost like a drug....it's hard NOT to do it, if you enjoy it. That's why I suggested he stick with something low performance for a year or so. He's been without a car for what...a year or so? And he's immediately talking about building up a 3.0? His money would be better spent finding a reliable daily commuter to get him back and forth to a job, than building an engine right now.

But hey...whatever suits. I wish him the best.

First off, If I didn't accept responsibility for what I did, I would have tried to fight it in court. Instead, I admitted everything I did. I am currently working 2 jobs, and riding my BICYCLE to both of them during a cold Michigan winter. I am working my ass off so I can pay for all the damage I did to myself. It's not easy. if I wasn't determined to do the right thing, I would have a car and be driving it right now.

Ok, pot smoking is not ok, because that is what the government tells us. Realistically, alcohol causes way more damage. It did to me anyway. I can't believe how often this is brought up in my threads. It is not what caused my problems. Yes, I got caught one time a few years ago when I was being stupid. Now days, I do it so rarely it is not doing me any harm. If I do it, it is in my own home, where I will not get caught doing it. Sure my PO could make me take a drug test. That is why I am clean every time I see him. Even if I did come up dirty one time, u know what the chances are of him putting me in jail over that? Very slim. Why? Because I am really making a huge effort to make things right. I am working 2 jobs, and paying off my fines. Trust me, I have been on probation long enough to know how it works.

It was not the car that got me in trouble. It was my attitude. It doesn't matter what car I own. I choose how to drive it. I had alot of slow cars in the past, and I drove them fast too. Just about any car on the road will hit 100 MPH or better. For some reason I just had the worst luck in the Sundance Duster

A 3.0L car is an excellent daily driver. They are reliable, and get good gas mileage. It's not like its a performance machine. No I am not going to do a build up. If I rebuild one, I might install some 10:1 compression pistons and do a few bolt ons. I don't consider that a build up. You actually consider a 3.0L car high performance? I don't. Mine had AT MOST 200 hp.

Yes going fast is like a drug, and I love it. However, I want to keep my license so bad I will definitely think twice before I decide to abuse my power. Yes I will still drive fast on the streets. I will do it within reason though. If i get a few tickets, I will lay low for a while. It is all about being smart about how you drive.

My whole point is, it was my ATTITUDE about life that got me in all this trouble. Not the car, and not the damn weed. I realized the mistakes I have made, and I have changed. It doesn't matter what car I drive, it is how I choose to drive it.

so from all that BS,

Im still correct, its obviously a judgement issue and a geo metro wont solve anything.

Why beat a dead horse. Typing a lot of words is not going to change anything.

But I am very anti substance abuse of ANYTHING regardless of how much someone loves it and thinks its good.

Substance abuse is bad. I won't argue there. Too much of anything can be bad. The only substance I have been abusing lately is alcohol. Why? Because I love it...... It still doesn't mean it's ok.

The important thing is that I know for damn sure I learned my lesson. No one can tell me that I didn't. No one knows what is really going on inside my brain. No one can tell me if I learned or not. Especially people on the internet that have never met me. I know what I need to do, and that is what is important

This statement right here (along with others) tell me that you haven't changed. If you're still drinking and smoking (both of which are Parole violations), you have NOT taken accontability for your actions. Sure, you admitted you screwed up...Admitting it, and doing something about it, are two totally seperate things. Doing something about it, shows you are on the path to a true recovery....saying "yeah, I screwed up, but I'm still going to do illegal drugs and drink when I want to, becauses they won't catch me" is not taking accountability for your actions. Hey, do what you want...I don't care. It's you're life. But if you truely want to fix this problem, you need to take it alot more seriously. Just don't try to convince me you're "cured" when you're still trying to cheat the system.

And you SHOULD be working 2 jobs and Riding your bike to work!!! You have an OBLIGATION to pay off the fines and restitution for the damage you have done. While working 2 jobs is certainly helpful, and a big step in the right direction, if you really want to get out of this mess you're in, get completely cleaned up, and stay that way. Get your life back, then learn to live within the common guidelines the rest of us do.

And for the record, no, I don't consider a 3.0 a "fast" car...but they are fast enough to encourage people to sometimes do stupid things in them.

I also grew up in a household not that different than yours...and yes. it is partly to blame...but you need to take responsiblilty for your actions. Admitting you screwed up, is only part of being responsible.

Best of luck to you, whatever you decide.

P.S. I really didn't mean to drag this out like this... my apologies.

That is not the point. Just because I am still drinking, and smoking once in a while, tells you NOTHING about how I will drive when I get my license back. Me changing my driving has nothing to do with the substances I abuse. It is about how I drive. I can sit here and get hammered and stoned if I want to. It is on my own time, and in my own house. I don't care if I am not supposed to. I am not going to get caught doing it, so I am going to do it. Simple as that. It doesn't mean I didnt change.

Well no shit that is what I am supposed to do. At least I am making an effort. There are alot of people out there that screw up and make no effort to fix it. At least I am not one of them. Why don't you take a look at all the good things I am doing, instead of the few negative things?

I did not bring back this thread to start bickering about whether or not I changed my life. I just wanted to tell the 3.0L community that I will be back if I get my license back!

Honestly Josh im just glad to here that you will be back. Youve gave me some inspiration on what can be done as far as at the track for sure. I know brand new mustangs...like 05s that are barely running what you were running. Josh was hitting good numbers N/A and i give him props for it. Yeah he messed up...however no one is perfect...the worlds not perfect and we can only learn from and move on from the mistakes we make. So why dont we just drop it because in the end it is josh's free will that will decide what happens to him not this sensless bickering.

Thanks man. I am glad I inspired you. It's too bad I never hit 13's. I was so close to it. I know I would be there this year if I still had the car. I don't know for certain If I will be getting another 3L car in the future. There are so many other cars out there I can choose from. I really like the 3L though. Its a perfect happy medium between performance, reliability, good gas mileage, and being cheap and easy to fix. It's a great choice for people that want a quick daily driver, but don't have alot of money. I know so much about this plaform, I don't want to quit. I want to see how much power I can get out of a 3L without spending too much money. Will I ever see 13's N/A? I really don't know. If the car is my daily driver, I won't be ripping out the interior. However, things could end up like last time. The Duster started out as my daily driver, but it started falling apart so I turned it into my weekend drag car. Who knows. Only time will tell. I really shouldn't be thinking too much about this yet. I can see myself spending a few grand on a good lawyer, and still not get a license
I just have to hang in there and keep fighting. I bet before I know it I will be tuning a 3L again
Maybe someday I will follow in brent's footsteps
