As alot of you know, I have made some real bad decisions in my life, and lost almost everything I had. Including my drivers license and car. Now it's time to start over! I am having a hard time staying happy without any kind of project or future plans. Its one thing not having a running car or a drivers license, but it totally sucks not having ANY kind of project, or plans when you have mobil one 10W30 pumping through your veins! Thats right, I am a gear head wtihout any gears!! I just want some kind of project for when I get my license back someday, or just to race at the track if I dont have a license.

The problem:
I dont have the money to buy a car to race right now. I have bills and fines that need to be paid first. If I dont pay my "driver responsibility fees", the state will never issue me a license. Not only I dont have the money, I don't have a place to store it.

My idea:
I think I want to stick with the 3.0L. I know alot about that platform, and I like to be different. So I am thinking, maybe I'll slowly rebuild one in my living room? LOL, yes you heard me correctly. Right now I have a 3.0L shortblock sitting in a storage unit. It has been there for years, so the cylinder walls are rusting. The engine is shot, needs a rebuild. So what if take it apart, clean it up, and have it bored. Then over time I can slowly save up money and assemble it in my living room. I can put away a small amount of money each paycheck for my future project. Like maybe $10.

The questions:
Am I crazy? Does this sound like a good or bad idea? If I assembled one without the seals, will it be ok to store it for a few years before I start it up? Should I rebuild it with forged goodies so I can eventually boost it? Should I really stick with this "bastard" motor? Should I supercharge or turbocharge it?

I am just brainstorming right now. I think I might feel better if I had some kind of project. Should I really consider doing this, or just completely give up the hobby for a few years? I continue to be indecisive about this idea. I have lots of ideas running through my head all the time. Maybe I should just save up money for a future project, and figure it out in a few years. I might be better off to work 2 jobs so I can forget about it.

sucks about your lose, sometimes gotta learn the hard way though.

Don't know your payment schedule, should save up for a used car that has a 3.0 and slowly restore it slowly over time since there is no rush since you can't drive it.

Maybe thats what I'll do. I'll slowly save up for another car to fix up to race. I have to find a place to store it though. I can't keep it here because it has to have a valid plate. The only way I can keep it here is if I put it in someone elses name. I need to at least have goals so I can stay happy.

if you want/need a spare 3.0 motor, i have one for sale, ~200 (new head gasket set, 52mm TB) still runs, only thing is i THINK she might have a cracked head... but it would make a great building motor

Well after doing alot of thinking, I think I better stay away from cars for a while. I need to pay off my fines ASAP so I can get my license back. I might as well be without my hobby for a lilttle while so I can get it back as quick is possible.

Well, It looks like I *might* be playing with 3.0L cars by this fall. I can have a hearing in september to try to get my license back. I am going to need a good lawyer though. My driving record is HORRIBLE!
If I get my license back, I am going to be on the look out for 3.0L A543 P bodies! I miss my Sundance Duster so bad! Maybe I'll rebuild my spare motor with 10:1 pistons

P.S. Does anyone know of any good lawyers in the West Michigan area?

Maybe the best advice would be to invest in some drivers training lessons. Not trying to be a jackass, but if you've gotten yourself in this much trouble already, then I think you need to re-evaluate your entire driving situation. What you need to buy, is some puddle jumper with little to no performance what-so-ever and learn to drive it sensibly. If its embarrasing slow on the street, you'll be less likely to push it. You can ALWAYS bracket race....no matter WHAT you drive. THEN worry about getting something with a little performance. I'd hate to see you right back where you are now, this time next year, because you fell back into old bad habits.

Not the advice you wanted, I'm sure...but you might want to consider it.

I dont think driving was one of his problems. Judgement impairment................thats all there was to it.

Learning to make the right decision even when its the "tough/boring/notcool path" to follow is what josh needs.

Doesnt matter what car he buys.

Sheltering a person wont teach them. Fixing the real problem instead of some stupid bandaid is what you do when you want to help someone.
