I suppose we could do that when we test the exhaust port inserts. Date TBD on that one.

Today I got to taking off the Upper Intake Plenum (UIP) and taking a look at the spacers not made by KMP, but as I looked at them what I saw wasn't that the spacers that where wrong (other than the bolt hole miss alignement which is easily fixed) on the intake ports since they are lined up to the upper intake gaskets. The gaskets actually are larger than the intake ports.

What I need to do now is port the upper and lower manifolds to match the gaskets for good flow. The decrease in port size is probably causing turbulence which is robbing power.

The point to all this is to let others know if KMP and others make spacers based on the gaskets then consumers will need to match the ports of the upper and lower intake manifolds to make good a smooth transistion.

Can't wait to hear your results mike of the 1/2" spacers.

I'm glad you know how to make lemonade out of lemons Rogue.

Shouldn't have to re drill holes and clean up something like that though.

I bet the KMP spacers are not messed up like that.

Every set we sold in the last batch was put on a lower intake to make sure the port holes lined up and then flipped to make sure the other side lined up as well (in case the holes had a slight angle).

Those that had any perceptable lip on one side of a port (ie were off center) went in the trash. Sadly, quite a few of the earlier ones went in the trash.

Thats sad but good to hear.

I had a some thoughts about maybe even dropping the the temps a bit more on the upper plenum. I was thinking about using screw insulators for the bolts. I used some 8x70 SS bolts which really do transfer some extra heat to the UIM(upper intake manifold). These insulators only need to be used on the UIM to help keep temps down even more. My thought was using some Nylon type (like this: WashersUSA.com / Nylon Components), but figuring that that probably wouldn't be strong enough to bolt down tight without cracking the shoulder. Do you know if the plastic you use would be able to handle the stress without cracking? Maybe someone knows a better stronger insulator than this? How hard is Derlin to get ahold of?

I Also have other cheap ideas on keeping the UIM temps down that I maybe testing soon.

That's about what I expected. Well made and well tested. If I needed a pair I would want some of yours.

searching always helps, but here is a thread that will help you get most of the common mods sorted: 3L shadow HP help

As for my post about the nylon isolators. For shits and giggles I bought some 5/16th nylon washers for about $1.50, I installed them before my ride home so engine was completely cold and these are pretty beefy so i'm not worried about them cracking. I noticed as the engine got to operating temps It had a bit more torque than usual. Once I got home I popped the hood and touched the lower intake manifold and valve cover and couldn't even keep my hand on there for a short period of time. I then touched the upper intake manifold and was just warm where before without the washers it would feel just a bit cooler than the engine but still pretty hot. I'm wondering how much better a full Isolator would work but the bolts were barely touching the walls of the upper intake manifold where the heads of the bolts make full contact on the UIM.

As it goes, I'll probably be testing this further but for a $1.50 it sure doesn't seem like money wasted

Unfortunately not. We sold all of them after the first run.

Back in March I proposed doing another run (see page 14 of this thread for details) but didn't get any takers. If we can get orders for a minimum of 5 sets we could do another run. Just let me know.

I'll see if I can find any 3.0 people around me who would be interested and I'm going to start a new thread in 3.0 turbo looking for a few people who would go in on emm. How much for a set?

Assuming there is interest, the spacers will be made out of cast nylon like the last ones and will be 1/2" thick. Taller won't fit under the hood of most cars and it's not cost effective to do sets in multiple heights so that's the only thickness I'm considering. Cost would be $75 per set plus shipping to you address via a traceable carrier. Metric hex bolts and a set of washers would be included in that cost.

Like before, all spacers would be checked for proper hole alignment on an intake manifold prior to shipping so you won't end up with a pair of paper weights or some piece of junk that doesn't fit right.

Please do not ask about other thicknesses, alternative materials, or spacers for non-standard intakes.

Because I had 2 people back out on me last time, I would be collecting money from everyone BEFORE ordering material. I would of course keep all buyers appraised of the status and ship spacers out on a first come first serve basis.

If anyone else is interested, post now. Once we have 5 serious people, I'll start collecting contact info.

Thanks,

Mike

Obviously I am interested in these, any others? Do we have any dyno numbers from the first batch? I thought I saw something showing a few extra ft-lbs torque but I don't know if it was this thread or not. And as for the other 3.0 people, you oughtta get on these because cheetah is unreliable, and who knows when or if you'll have the opportunity to snag some elsewhere.
