a slight decrease could actually cause the same problem.

Considering the plenum was probably designed based on fitment issues rather then horsepower production I would not say the length is anything special.
It is shorter then the mitsubishi runners and the mitsubishi sohcs make more power when you compare stock plenums.

OMG! We appear to have returned to the original thread of - "anyone interesting in... what size do you want..." I was pretty sure someone was going to put a Supra on a Dyne with 5 different plenum configurations with and without a set of spacers and then report back to us with a thesis on horsepower vs torque. ...but I guess it's not to be.

That's my smart ass way of saying thank you for helping to get this thread back on track.

....so what do people think of 7/8" as a good round number?

Anyone know if that will work on all hoods, most hoods, or only some hoods?

Anyone know if that is tall enough to allow you to flip the plenum backwards?

I know the 1/2" spacers in my duster rub slightly, don't know if it's just my car though.

I can vouch 1st hand that 1" spacers do NOT fit in a P-body. I have to have them machined to fit though. I think 7/8"s is still cutting it wayy too close. 1/2" unless you're running a cowl or large scoop.

MightyMulhern...Any possibility that various length spacers could be tested to see what actually performs the best? That same testing would also answer M90Daytona's question about what increase(or decrease) could be expected.

Im using 1" spacers in my P body but the hood is totally jacked up bent and not shutting in the rear. Im okay with that because I dont need a pretty hood but I do need a turbo :P

I actually have about 1" of spacer on the hood latch and I will probably increase that a little bit to help fit my air filter better.

I'll need a hood scoop for my 'van anyway, so 7/8" spacers should work just fine

Honestly, I'd love to do a lot of comparative testing, not only on spacers, but other things as well. Unfortunately it’s not very cost effective to prototype and test several different thicknesses based on the small number of people who are interested. We would have to really jack up the cost per set to cover that, and that would probably push it off everyone’s list. If I thought we could move 50 or 100 sets it would be very reasonable. …but we’re likely talking about 10.

The whole thinking behind this thread was that some people were asking where they could get spacers, we knew that people weren’t really happy with the one’s Paul B was making, and we thought maybe we could do a group order, make up a batch, and fill a gap. We don’t really have any intention of launching a bigger project because we’ve got too many other things going on.

Hopefully everyone understands that.

Completely understand! I just didn't know if you had easy access to Dyno time or not. Thanks for your efforts though!

Mike,

If I can find my autocad layouts for the ones I was making I will send them your way. Unfortunatly my machine shop guy has moved into another profession, and with me working 60+ a week, I don't have time anymore.
