Mike and I did some more dyne testing and tuning.

We started by putting Mike's Eclipse (bone stock 24-valve V6) on the dyne for reference purposes. Peak numbers are 168whp and 177 ft-lbs. So this dyne may read a little lower than other dynes...

Next up was my van. For the first run we added an UDP. That gained hp, but not peak hp... The max gain was about 4 hp and 5 ft-lbs torque in the 3K RPM range.

Then we did a 3rd gear pull (instead of 2nd gear...) That increased peak whp by 8whp!

Then we made several runs tweaking the spark advance. The result was whp increased by ~4whp.

Next up we added 1" plenum spacer and whp was up by 2 whp and torque was up by 7 ft-lbs.

Bottom line:
Torque 179.5 ft-lbs @4k PRM
whp 156.7 whp @5k RPM

By my estimation, that is about a 37 whp gain over stock. More if the dyne indeed reads a little low.

I am still looking for somebody with a stock or near stock 3L vehicle to dyne.

For those that are curious, here are some of the dyno pulls.

Here is the difference we made by tuning the spark advance.

Here is a comparison between were we started the day (005), were we ended and the day (010), and what happens if you put a stock plenum and 46mm TB on that setup (011).

And here is a comparison of a Bone stock 24-valve 3L Eclipse (003) vs my Voyager (009).

I would say they have proved themselves... Starting with on the flow bench they were within a few CFM of Brent's big valve heads. Now they are making power on the dyne.

I believe they are capable of making even more power if some other limitations of the current intake/exhaust manifolds are overcome.

If we didnt have the stock rev limiter then I think a cam would also make a huge difference with the right supporting mods.

you can see the sohc 24v is peaking 500rpm later
I think the current generation of 270hp nissan v6's all make peak power above 6000 rpms.

I was never a believer in advancing the timing till early summer 2005 (seeing that you dyno tested it with success)

I think it would be nice to see a car with a manual ECU on the dyno.

Not sure if we can make as much power up high as the 24v, but I believe there are definitely some more gains to be made... I was rather surprised the difference that an extra 1" of runner length made...

I have several things on my list of things to try. Some additional intake manifold modifications and tweaking the cam timing are high on the list...

Without the spacers, I think the engine is either cam limited or TB limited.

While we were there, we talked to a co-worker of mine about some of the details of why advancing the timing (a little) works... and the things you need to watch for. I think Mike learned more than he wanted about spark hooks...

Ed, are you running stock cat, exhuast, muffler?

Sounds like some good numbers if you can get a basline 3.0 12v to compare too.

I am running 2.5" pipe and two mufflers, no cat.

I have been looking for a 3L for some baseline checks.

To be blunt I am looking for a car that people feel is "representative"... If I grab a _stock_ car and the numbers come out lower than everybody is claimed, it will be deemed a "low performing engine that has problems and thus not representative..."

So what all did the van have done to it when you pulled 156?

Hmm very basic mods indeed. Other than the heads...thats all stuff you can do in a couple hours. I need to send you guys at KMP a lower intake to have done.
