I was wondering if the internals of the A413 would work with the 670 trans

you might as well get a rebuild kit instead of using old worn out parts, but I'm pretty sure they are the same besides the casing. The 670 probably has stronger internals also.

The 670 is a 413. Just has a different bell housing. Internals are identical.

6 cylinder:
A670 = 3 speed automatic
A604 = 4 speed electronic controlled automatic with overdrive
A543 = 5 speed manual shift

4 cylinder:
A404 = early 3 speed automatic transmission
A413 = 3 speed automatic (NA-lockup torque converter, turbo- non-lockup)
A520 = early 5 speed manual (4 plane shift pattern)
A525 = 5 speed transmission (4 plane shift pattern)
A523 = 5 speed transmission (3 plane shift pattern)
A568 = 5 speed transmission (3 plane shift pattern; R/T and VNT only)

Someone can chime in if I made any mistakes, or omitted any transaxles.

I'm sure I forgot about the 4 speed manual transmissions and one or two other automatics.

Yes, the 670 is a lockup.

But it can be modified for use without lockup.

A555: 4-cylinder 4-plane 5-speed TII only(from factory anyways) 4-pinion diff

The A568 could be has as a non-R/T tranny found in the few '90 turbo mini's that were made and the high torque TI's. Some were found with 2-pinion diffs in these applications.

It should aslo be noted that there are different input shaft sizes for the A523, A543, and A568. 1990 and some 1991 trannies got an input shaft size the same as the older 4-plane trannies. Later 1991-1993 trannies got a larger input shaft as well as gear sets with a more course pitch for higher load capabilites...

The A413 was later designated 31TH, as was the A670. Yes, the A670 has lock-up, but the designation started with the V6 application and was later grouped to any 3-speed hydraulically controlled tranny with lock-up. 31TH is the most current designation

The A604 is also known as the 41TE. It is similar to the A606(aka 42LE) and the 41AE(AWD version of the 41TE...don't think of using this for an AWD conversion...it WILL break).

There is also the manual found in the 16V Maserati TC's (A278??), but it can't be used in our application and is a Getrag unit. Just thought I'd trhow it in to the mix.
