Have a 1992 Lebaron and when the temperature drops below -25C (-13F) I get a strong smell of gas when the car is running.

My sister has a 1994 Spirit with the exact same problem.

I assume that there is a seal somewhere that is shrinking with the cold enough to allow a minor leak. Has anyone else had this problem?

Any ideas??

PS these are both 3.0L engines

Lift up the hood and see if you smell gas under the hood. If you don't great. It sounds like you might just be smelling the raw gas coming from the exhaust during warm up. Because all gas engines run richer and richer as the temps get colder and then lean out as the car warms up. So also see if you notice a difference from when the car is warm and cold.

Gonna have to wait until it gets cold again..... but I do know that it smells of gas even once the engine is warmed up.

When the filter gets plugged on my van, it smells gassy and starts seeping around the filter. If the gunge in your filter stiffens up, or it plugs with ice crystals, then that may be the cause. I would suggest trying a new fuel filter if that's where it seems to come from, particularly if you haven't changed it in more than a year.

I've had hose to fuel rail connections leak when it's really cold out. I guess it all shrinks to where the clamp isn't clamping much anymore.
