He probably pulled the fill plug while in the pit. I do that at my job. I get a sample from every manual tranny that comes through.

At my job we are required to call out "no double gasket by sight or feel" while installing the oil filter. Then we have to check the filter for leaks when the vehicle is started, and call out "ok bottom side". Overall, I like the way the business is run. We make damn sure everything is done right before the customer leaves.

In my shop class, we attempted starting this 74 jeep but didn't notice someone took the oil filter until I see black sludge hitting the floor like a hose! I immediately yell at my friend to kill it. Oil flows pretty quick even when first turning the key. Always double checked from then on!

I'd say on average, about 1 out of every 50 oil changes the gasket sticks to the block. At my job, it happens once every few days. On average, I probably service about 25 cars a day.

ill tell you guys a good on e my dad has a 94 baron gtc 3.0/a604 and i was just under it 2 weeks prior replacing the front motor mount and the cv axles were fine so anyway my dad goes into monroe for their "$11.99 special oil change" what a joke they call him outside because "they found a problem with his cv axle" he goes out there to find a clean razorblade cut all the way around the cv boot with no grease flung anywhere like it just magically stays inside the axle when its spinning at 2,000+ rpms ok buddy my dad threatened to sue them and they gave him a new cv axle free of charge and labor. this type of thing happens all the time with commission demanding shops some places if the employees dont sell a certain amount they start gettin 50 cent deductions in pay untill they do

I never go to oil shops, i installed a fram quick change fitting on my engine, works great, and don't worry about cross threading a pan.
On the other hand i don't have any welding tools, and my exhaust broke before the muffler (just before 1.75" reducer), they charged me 45.00 for the repair, i paid it and in less than a couple weeks it started to get louder in after the 3rd week it broke apart again. I call the shop and they say they don't guarantee patches when i specifically asked the guys there when i got it done saying it was guaranteed. So i get a patch kit for 8$ from advanced and found only a couple of spot welds on the pipe where it broke  I paid all that money for a half-assed job! Now with the patch its working ok, i didn't do a great job so it isn't 100% sealed up, but will be getting a new catback exhaust before my next e-check so i'm not worried.

Similar story but about brakes this time. As a previous shop owner, I understand the need to make $$$$. However, $600 for rotors, pads and calipers???!!!
My wife's cousin goes to Firestone to have the brakes looked at. It is a 94 Buick Park Avenue. Well, I go to NAPA and get pads and rotors for $85. I pull out the caliper pins and rubber inserts, hone the caliper slide holes and grease everything. Put it all together and it works great(I've done this so many times, I've lost count).
I know roughly how much the parts cost Firestone. They get loaded calipers and rotors for about $85-$105 total cost. I would have been a rich bas*@rd if I had made money like that! LOL!

This was many years ago--when I was like 12 or so...
Dad brought our Plymouth minivan in to get an oil change, tire rotation, basic inspection blah blah blah since he didn't have time to do it.
One Sunday morning, I was still in bed, barely awake and a hear the sound of him prying off a hubcap out in the driveway. Then there was silence, and then the sound of the wrecking bar (his prying tool) slamming against the ground and a LOT of mad swearing going on. I knew the plan was to kill someone very soon.
Dad always liked to kinda double-check other peoples' work, and thankfully he did. The dealership installed all the lug nuts finger tight and BACKWARDS. BACKWARDS! All five lugs on all four wheels could be taken off with your fingers. This is proof of how long you can really drive with loose lugs before they come off. Dad was about to put them on right and mom stopped him and said, it lasted this long, there is no way it won't last another 8 miles to the dealership for them to see themselves.
The next day, mom drove it over there, pulled right into the shop to block service department traffic and bitched.
It wasn't long after that they fired their entire service department (re-hired some) and got all new people there.
We drove the crap out of that van during this time and even hauled around a really heavy cast iron bathtub in the back end for many of the miles because we couldn't get it out after the forklift set it into the van originally.
