Exactly what is different between the 4 cylinder and V6 engines for the transmission mounting bolt pattern? I'm wondering if a 4 cylinder transmission (523) can be adapted to a V6 in place of the much rarer and far more expensive 543. Then just cut out a notch on the 523 case to clear the water inlet tube.

My brother has a V6 engine sitting around right now, along with a 604 and a 413 transmission, so I'm going to look at then and try lining up the 413 on the V6.

If the index pins are in the same place, that's the most important thing. The bolt holes can be welded and adapted, and I'm hoping the lower mounting bolt holes are in the same place too. If only the upper mounting bolt holes are different then this could be done.

I'm a good TD'er - I'm too cheap to spend the extra $$$ for a proper 543, I'd rather spend the same amount of money adapting a 523 to fit!

Oops, I forgot one thing - starter location is totally different. This might not work after all .
