See if the Mitsu dealer has the rebuild kit in stock.... I would not say that it's uncommon for OEM parts to be different from aftermarket. I delt with tha ALL the time when I was in the marine industry(read I worked with boats). I ALWAYS went with OEM when I could.

somehow im inclined to think that if EVERY 3.0 had the same rebuild kit part #, something is different with my motor, than with a nation-wide parts store's database...but i could be wrong. if i dont have work tomorrow (rain) ill see about calling/visiting the mitsu dealer about this.

Tearstone just answered my thread on club3g and says that my gears are what hes used to seeing. still makes me wonder though, how a company like advance auto or melling can get something like this wrong...

It wouldn't be unheard of for an autoparts store to get it wrong, however, that is usually with rarer vehicles (like my old T3).

I see a couple possibilities:
- Parts store/manufacturer has the wrong listing. (checking with the OEM should clear this up.)
- The engine has after market pump (which may or may not be high volume.)

The problem with used engines is their history is unknown... Have you checked the pressure relief valve to see if it is shimmed?

That winning personality of yours gets you free gears though.

Well, at least fast service anyway.

Hang in there.

Your stock gear looks better, mostly because it looks like it would bind up less then the smaller one.
Does it look like the materials are the same?

Hey Shadow,
What was the year & body that your engine came out of?
The Melling kit doesn't fit all 3.0s (I guess you know that). There are several pump assemblys listed. The housings appear different for the Dodge version vs Mitsubishi. I'll look in my Melling catalog tomorrow. I couldn't remember the origin of your engine.
Must be the advancing years.

motor origin is an 00-05 eclipse GT/dodge stratus RT

i was looking for a pump rebuild kit - Melling PN (i think) was K142, however K176 looked right but they didnt have that one at all, it was factory direct...

My thought is that it is possible that the kit that you have is designed to fit the aftermarket pump. I've seen that sort of thing before too. There may be two kits...one for the OEM pump, and one for the aftermarket. This would prove the aftermarket pump not being the same....

Hey Shadow,
Reset your besets. Melling does not offer a rebuild for your pump. they offer a complete pump assembly, if your engine is a 01-04 Dodge or a 99-05 Eclipse. It is a #M344, not yet in the catalog.
No dimensions were available to compare to your set up (they don't build that pump, it's purchased)
Forget about the K176, thats for a Ford 4.6 & 5.4.
Your humble servant,
SpeedyEd
BTW i asked if increasing the diameter of the gear rotor would increase volume and the answer was yes, but space was tight.
