they used a different motor with the same displacement. I like those flat-top pistons.

They're the AMC/Renault motors, that Monaco being a badge engineered Eagle Premier.

The motor is a derivative of the PVR6. This motor was a joined effort from Peugot, volvo, and Renault. It's extremely similar to the 2.8L motor in the delorian. I owned an Eagle Premier (same thing as the dodge Monaco of the same years). Honestly, it's a nightmare of a motor. Parts are three times as expensive (tune up parts cost me over $300). And reliability sucks on the ZF transmission mated to them.
