OK, picked up my 92 Shadow 3.0/5spd on Saturday, and I'm starting to plan my project out. I know a few of you have gotten great results with turbos on these things, but I want to see just how much power I can get staying all-motor, so:
What's the best 10:1 piston kit? Any I should stay away from?
Extrude hone the upper and lower intake runners, or go for a custom plenum/UIM?
The big dilemma is the heads.
Has anyone here P&Ped their heads? Any advice/how-tos/pics?
Is there room enough for larger valves?
Cams: Diamante or Montero? Is there a source for custom cams that ISN'T based in Australia?

I know I want a full-disc clutch, not a multi-puck, what should I look for?

I'm looking to do all this on a spare motor, then install it lock, stock, and barrel, so I can enjoy the car in the mean time. Also, I can work on the suspension with a running motor...

Others will have differing opinions but I say swap on some SOHC or DOHC 24V heads. Buy some headers like shadow24V and have them modified to fit. Make up a custom short runner intake manifold similar to what ondonti has done. Get some 10:1 forged pistons (in case nitrous or boost tempt you later) aluminum flywheel, get the cams reground to raise your power band to 8000 rpm and install a stand-alone like Megasquirt. This is all assuming you either have a lots of money to burn or lots of time and some pretty handy skills. Let the arguments start!

Based on some of the techinical info I have read, extrude honing is not that great. At least not by itself. Basically, the abrahsive clay removes material _everywhere and you hope it moves more where needed. Extrude honing can be helpful as part of a final step of polishing...

As far as the heads, there is a lot that can be done, but you really need a flow bench to check results... Trying to communicate what needs to be done were is difficult because many of the measurements have to be done in a very specific way to be worth much...

As far as larger valves, there is room, but the need for them depends on what you are doing with the rest of the engine...

Talk to turbovanman.

What I haven't seen in your list is what you are doing to the bottom half. Are you boring it out? Are you going to stroke the crank?

Don't want to stroke it, I'd rather stick with a stock crank. Probably going to bore it out, thinking somewhere around 0.100 over. Depends on what pistons I can get for it.
Lighter rods are another area for consideration, so the crank would have to be rebalanced.
Under-drive pulley is also in the works. As is a manual steering rack, both of which should free up some spare hp. A/C is already gone.

I also want to stick with the 12 valve heads. Call me weird.

just want to point out to you all that sunmind has again proved that 12v's make power.

His 12v 3000gt put down 220fwhp a few months ago (new engine and not sure how aggressively it was tuned) and so
the 2 most powerful documented USA n/a 6g72's are...12v's lol. Both of those (chris's & sunminds) have fairly mild setups when it comes to engines. You can get a LOT crazier if you want to.

If you are getting new pistons and rods, might as well have the crank offset ground. Then adjust the piston height back to stock by moving the wrist pin hole...

Even offset grinding it .050" would increase the stroke by 0.1". Combine that with boring would put you just under 200 in^3

Right, the one Mom gave you cause the trade-in wasn't worth it.

Anyway, back on topic. I'm looking for the wild set-ups. This thing isn't going to be a daily driver, so I can go nuts on it.

10:1 pistons but good luck finding those new. I got my set from a junkyard Diamante and kept the factory bore size. Diamante cams are totally worth it too. Then there is the obvious stuff like ported intake, exhaust, bolt-on stuff etc. Josh aka 93sundance can give you some tips.
