The 4 ways themselves never worked.

But I have the cure, swap the old harness back in. The new one doesn't have a connector for the oil pressure switch anyhow.

You realize it's probably your turn signal flasher that is bad right? You do realize you have 2 flashers (1 for hazards and 1 for directionals?) Because whatyou described right there says exactly the symptoms of a directional flasher going bad.

I think I'm going to hook up the speedometer sensor this weekend. The colors of the wires and tracers on my speedometer sensor plug harness are the same as what was described in post #22. Black with blue tracer, white with orange tracer, and a solid orange wire. So it should (and BETTER) work right the first time.

Then I have to pull out the speedometer and advance it about 900 miles to make up for the driving I've done in the past 2 weeks.

I hooked up the speedometer wires today. I did it as was told in post #22. Except I ran the ground to battery negative. Solid orange wire to pin #7, white wire with orange tracer to pin #47. The colors of the wires in the car's harness matched the colors of the speedometer wires I was adding in.

Guess what?

Speedometer no go go.

What's wrong here? Does the ground wire HAVE to go to the computer's wiring harness itself? I took the big connector off the ECU, and popped open its snap-on cap, and the housing was clearly marked with the pin numbers, so I don't think I got them on the wrong wires.

Anyone got a 1993 P body engine wiring diagram? I'm all out of them at the moment.

Boogieman - I CAN'T forget about the missing miles, that's like telling Rain Man not to watch People's Court today. I'm a little over 1000 missing miles now. I'll fix that once the speedometer is working again.

I hooked up the ground wire to pin 4.

Still doesn't work.

Found out what the problem was, the speedometer gear was shredded halfway around.

I went into work today, but everyone was leaving by 11:30, so I went out to the car and pulled the speedometer sensor out of the right side extension housing. It's a blue 20 tooth gear on it, half the teeth had been ground up big time, apparently by the axle's gear teeth.

Maybe I put it in in such a way that the plastic teeth went over top of the metal axle ones instead of engaging smoothly? The gear teeth were in great shape before I installed it.

I had pulled the speedo sensor out thinking that since I'd reused the original 604 axles, there wasn't a speedo gear cut into the metal axle.

But then once I saw what happened, I went back into the building, got an 18 volt 1300 rpm cordless drill, and brought it out to the car. Turned the ignition key to the "RUN" position, hooked up the drill to the speedo gear, and turned it on full speed. Speedometer went up to 64 mph and the odometer worked too.

So it's wired right, I just have to replace the speedometer gear and hope it doesn't shred itself again.

And advance the odometer by about 1500 miles. Can't let it go!

at 64 mph with the drill you should be able to bump up the odometer with the drill in about 24 hours.

I wonder if I might have installed the speedometer gear into the extension housing before putting the axle shaft in. It could have happened and I don't remember exactly.

I was just trying to think of how that gear could have gotten so chewed up.

Usually the only problem I have with the sensor gear is that axles don't want to go in or out with it installed.......but I've never seen one damaged.

I wired the speed sensor for my spirits new wiring harness and it took of of 5 minutes with soldering :P

I just cut the connector and pigtail off my old engine harness, then cut the 3 wires off from the 10 pin connector that goes to the starter, then soldered the wires.

My only problem is that the tack wire is bouncy around 2800 rpms in 5th gear and worse above it and that my intermittent wipers dont work. stupid wiring harnesses!

I went to a junkyard last night and got another blue 20 tooth speedometer gear. Put it in today at lunchtime. I carefully wiggled the speedometer sensor assembly upon installation to avoid the gear getting messed up again.

Took it for a short test drive, and it works!

Now I just have to pull the speedometer out and advance it by about 1600 miles, maybe 1700. Got to keep count of these things.
