Um, you know who SMP is right? the 8 second charger. Thats how much his transmissions costs if you want to buy one.
Darrel cox's are basically copies of Stephane's transmission but he only adds parts that are needed for specific HP levels. They come with helical LSD's of course.

Stephane's are built for 1000 crank hp.

A fake built a413/a670 wont handle the power that these transmissions I am speaking of will. They are not a simple rebuilt with new clutches, a few parts and a valvebody thing.

An auto trans will just help me E.T. better and I really dont need to work on my E.T.'s when I dont have a cage and my track is REALLY anal about safety equipment. Nobody has made enough power in the TD community to prove a 1200 dollar transmission can hold the power that transmissions I am talking about will.

I wont need an expensive auto trans to run 11.49 because my car is light (meaning 11.49 could be done on a CHEAP auto because it wouldnt take much more then 320whp).......but I dont see the fun in building a car that has to run 8psi at the track in order to prevent needing a cage......and then when driving around for fun, cant turn the boost up high because the trans will die.

In the end, the 5 speed is fun to drive. If I had a cage etc then an auto would be a great investment!

11.49
And with good traction you dont need that much power to run that E.T. in a light car. Maybe 320whp.

Think what you want....you can build a good auto trans that WILL hold the power( and certainly anything you're going to throw at it) for much less than $3K. I'd sure like to know what all else is in an auto tranny besides some clutches, a few hard parts and a valve-body thing. Seems to me that when I built mine that's all that was in there. I did go through the trouble to reinforcing the planetaries, I stress releived the entire case, I checked all bearing tolerances, rebuilt the diff, ect, ect. The most expensive part was the torque converter! It was worth every $$$ too....

BTW, I think there are several TD's that will argue the fact that they don't make enough power to torture a tranny.

Sooo..... does that mean you can't take a car like..... a Ford GT, and run it bone stock without a cage??

ford gt's dont run faster then 11.49 on stock tires etc.

Those expensive transmissions have 300M imput shafts and other custom parts on the inside. i dont build them and I dont remember whats in there. Stephane talked about it maybe 2 years ago. Wasnt something I tried to remember.

Im sure you could ask the sebrings or ramsdell if the autos they build for people are the "same thing" as Frenchy's stuff.

Are you sure about that?

My question is, can you take a bone stock car that runs faster than 11.49 and run it without a cage?

My guess would be that once you make 1 run faster than 11.49 you aren't allowed to run the car until you have a cage. However, how many cars can run that fast stock? Off the top of my head...Bugatti Veyron definitely, McClaren F1 and Enzo Ferrari are close. It would be interesting to see if a track would allow it. For example, the Veyron has a top speed of 254mph...you would think that it would have enough "safety" features the would allow it to run at the track, roll-cage or not.

Also, IIRC a stock Ford GT runs 12.0 +/- 0.1 in a 1/4

In normal conditions, they dont run that fast. Average times even with good drivers are much slower and most of those gt's are not 100% bone stock if they are running quick.

If its an NHRA track, and they actually enforce the rules, then yes, they will boot you. Some tracks dont follow the rules. Mine does.

i guess i should have mentioned that two of those gts were off showroom floors when they ran. they are owned by two brothers who bought them new and ran them that nite before they were relegated to "sunday" drivers. ford gts (not to be confused with mustang gts) are very quick cars. even on top gear a fresh gt out ran several european exotic supercars
