My brother took his 92 Shadow ES 5-speed to a meet and dyno-day of some of his friends from the GM 3800SC boards, mainly because his Park Avenue Ultra is getting a tranny rebuild. Apparently, there was some dyno time available, and they decided to throw the Shadow up.
Mods: 52mm throttle body. Through the stock air intake system. The timing is....well, I had to set it by ear when we got the car back on the road. There are NO marks on the timing cover, and no sign there ever were. That makes it a little difficult, but it's pretty close to 15*, + or - 1*. The exhaust is somewhat more freely flowing, since it doesn't exist after the cat....That's it for mods.

How about that? 125HP and 163lbs! Here's the kicker: the motor has 250k on it, and the trans still has the ORIGINAL CLUTCH!

BTW one of Brian's friends mentioned it might be time for a new muffler. When the DEAF guy tells you that.....

Not bad. That sounds about right for those mods. With somewhat the same stuff mine put down 129hp...dunno torque unfortunatly, they didn't hook up the inductive spark tester. I had similar milage as well.

On the timing, which end of the engine are you checking? There should be some marks on the main belt pulley... If you have a few pulls on a dyne, that is the best place to set it... Properly tweaking the spark timing can gain you 4whp...

The pulley marks are there. The marks on the engine are what is missing. They just plain aren't there, so there is nothing to tell me if timing is retarded or advanced. I had to set it by ear and seat-of-the-pants.

Yeah, I've been looking for one. Oddly enough, none of the yards in the area have a 3.0 vehicle in stock, at least not when I'm actually there with my toolbox. It's pretty weird, normally there are an easy two dozen 3.0 minivans in the one yard alone. Right now I can't move in the place for all the 1G Neons, which means that if I ever need a Neon part, they'll only have a 30 minute window to crush everything before I get there.....

Anyone find the hp curve interesting?
With the stock intake power doesnt seem to drop off badly@ 6000 rpms.

Makes me think that the ECU really really really stops you from making power above 5500 rpms but before that there is plenty of room (fuel) to make more power.

He doesn't mention that we had a pool going as to how much power it would make. The guesses ranged from 99 to 128(winner). One guy actually had the temerity to put a dollar on a DNF!
BTW, It came to our attention today that the car may have done that pull with NO COOLANT in the radiator... The bypass hose above the water pump was leaking a little on the dyno, and when we tried to tighten it up today, the damn radiator was EMPTY!
It also has a very prominent rocker tick. At this point, the car is only on the road because the Buick is in the shop for trans work(channel plate gasket blew, we think the plate is warped, replaced all). As soon as the Buick's back, the Shadow goes on jackstands...

I have to get mine on a dyno one of these days. I am just dying to know what kind of power it makes.

TIRED?! That's like saying...umm, like saying...holy sh*t, I can't even come up with a simile. Let's just say it's a massive understatement. As was said before, the engine and trans are completely original, so far as we can tell, and have 251,xxx miles on them. Tammy Faye wasn't that beat...
