Does anyone know what type of turbo was used on the factory 3.0 turbo prototypes? Is that brand/model of turbo (or an equivalent) still available somewhere?

Does the Mitsubishi TD05H-16G sound right???

The reason I'm looking for this is because the slightly smaller TD05H-14B can be found on 1G DSM cars in the junkyards...making it a lot more affordable. Apparently the 16G is clode to the Garrett T3 in size and flow characteristics...

Plus, I figure whatever the prototype used would be fairly easy to incorporate into any N/A 3.0

If I remember correctly, both the 14b and the smaller of the two 16g's were used. Robert had both, the one in the Duster was the 14b (Again, if I remember correctly) from an Evo VII or VIII, whichever one had the divided turbine housing.

Ok, that's a great start. Does anyone know if there's pictures/specs/information for these engines available anywhere?

Okay, I guess maybe I should have asked a more direct question.

What I'm really looking for is which turbo(s) can be most "easily" (and effectively) adapted to the MMC 3.0 12V sohc engine as it comes from the factory in the 1990+ vehicles. I asked about the prototyopes thinking that whatever turbo they used would be the easiest, but maybe that's not the case...I don't want to limit myself. I know a lot of people have successfully turbo'd (sp?) their 3.0's, but none of them seem to give any details on the parts they used or the process.

Given that I am ready to fab a turbo manifold that uses a T3 flange, any T3 or hybrid turbo with a standard T3 flange will work... Right now I am just waiting for somebody to plunk down the money (well 50% up front) and I will order the custom flange and start fabrication...

A Holset HX35 mounted over the trans looks like the best idea to me

I like trans mounted but Ed's design will be much cheaper and require less work to install. Only need to replace the rear manifold. No need to flip intake or put the turbo in a weird spot to avoid the TB. No need to relocate battery.

Hopefully he will build a downpipe to go along with his manifold. A couple of bends with a 3" flex at the end should be able to fit any 3.0 cars exhaust.

basically if you want to build your own, build what you want. If you want something thats not so difficult Ed can hook you up.
