Watch this video and tell him he needs to get rid of the 3.0 motor. the guess car - Video
Why would you want to put a wimpy 8v in there when you could have the motor in the car in the video. And thats my RT that the camera is in, so its not like it was running a slow car.
Congrats on the find Josh!

looks like mine! (except diffrent color) i have a red one w/ black interior.

the 92-93 is my favorite too. its got a unique look that draws attention too it. the downfall is the weight compared to the shadow/sundance which weighs a couple hundred lbs less. i like the way the shadow es/dusters look almost as much as the 92-93 daytona es/iroc but i dont like the interiors of the shadow/dusters much. most of them where tan (not my first choice)...and they have that goofy accordian shifter, the square cluster and e-brake on the floor. i have owned a shadow es, a duster and 2 daytonas so i guess as long as its mopar, its okay w/ me.

It's not just the looks. It is not very comfortable compared to the G/J body interior. The P body seats do not go back far enough. I am 6' 3. After a long trip my knees start to hurt.

I have seen the light. I know the potency of the 3.0. I havent EVER been in a car like that, and I have driven a viper. If I had the money, and knew what I know know about those motors. I would probably have a 3.0T R/T

Crap, here is the problem. My brother was planning on replacing the head gaskets, or milling the heads at the most. Well, After we pulled the heads, we felt the cylinder walls. There is some rough spots in most of the cylinders. It was a huge disappointment. He does not have another vehicle. He was thinking about bolting the heads on that block (assuming they are ok or get milled) and driving it for a few months, until he can afford to rebuild another engine. I told him that I am not sure how long that motor will last, since most of the cylinders are screwed. So, now we are thinking about just going to the yard to find a decent short block to bolt the heads on. What do you all think? Can he make that motor with the screwed cyl walls last a few months, or is it a complete waste of time? He just needs a working vehicle for a few moths. If this car breaks, he will fix it. We LOVE FWD mopars

well junkyards have plenty of crashed 100k mile motors for 150 bucks if you pull it yourself.

How many miles do you plan on driving????

All I see from poor cylinder walls will be low compression and lots of blowbye?...burnign some oil.

has that engine been in a flood?
Anyways how many miles of driving??? Try to minimize the driving. You can waste more money with excessive driving then a pick and pull motor (worth about 3 fillups).

what do you mean that the cylinders are "screwed up"? what could happen to a cylinder that would mess it up? unless it got rust in there and pitted really bad or it cracked, whats the actuall problem with it?

I should have been a little more detailed. I quickly posted this last night.

Anyway, I mean there are some rough spots in most of the cylinders. I wouldn't say its REAL bad, but bad enough to cause blow by and oil consumption. I was just wondering if the rough spots will eventually wear the rings enough so the engine will not run at all. The worst spot is about an inch wide, and goes halfway around the cyl wall.

I think the car was ran a while with a bad head gasket, or warped/cracked head, or it was over heated, which caused a head to warp. I only drained about a quart of coolant out. The head and lower intake had no coolant in it (obviously) and was full of sludge. The water pump bearings are completely shot. More evidence that it was ran with no coolant for too long. I inspected the head gaskets, and did not see any spots where I could tell it failed.

The head gasket probably isn't blown too bad then. Maybe the water pump went bad and seeped all the coolant out making it overheat. They can leak pretty fast when they go, I saw it on my friends IROC when he first bought it. PO dumped tons of stop leak in there so it needed a rad, heater core and water pump.
My advice is to get a good junkyard motor, low mileage if you can find one and run that with bolt ons. Then rebuild the old motor. It's likely that the valve seals are bad on the stock engine.

Find a cheap running engine, and toss it in. Trying to put a band-aid on that 3.0 is living on borrowed time...providing it even works at all. IF your 'bro needs something reliable....don't even mess with the current engine.
