Hang on to your tax refunds, don't blow the cash yet!

Thought I'd post a "pre-announcement" here before you spend your refund on something else.

Right now I'm looking for a 1st generation 95-99 Neon 2 door, preferably with a DOHC motor and 5 speed. Needs to be in good shape, as it'll be my new daily driver / performance car to play around with.

As soon as I get it or something reasonably close (which will happen only after I get my tax refund, I'm filing as soon as I get my W2), I'm going to take my 1993 Shadow ES off the road and officially post it here and in the cars for sale section.

It can be bought or parted out.

Details:

197K miles, typical P body 2 door car, nothing special. 15" snowflake wheels, front brakes and rotors replaced 5K miles ago. Starting to get some rust here and there, and I don't feel like putting more money into it to keep it running anymore.

Engine - '93 3.0 V6, had 73K miles when I swapped it in last September, now has about 8K miles more. Runs great except one head gasket (cheap Evergreen gasket set from eBay, my bad!) leaks coolant. I'm keeping an eye on it.

Mods - lightly ported heads, full 5 angle competition valve job, Crower custom ground cams with slightly more duration and lift ($200 + shipping right there!). Fully ported and cleaned intake manifold with 52mm throttle body.

Electronics - Manual transmission 1993 SBEC engine controller.

Transmission - 1990 3.50 geared A543 5 speed manual gearbox. 133K total miles on it now, it shifts nicely and smoothly, I have Castrol GTX 10w-30 oil in it now. Came from a V6 Daytona. When I got it, I took it to a local transmission shop that I've worked with in the past, and they put in new seals, differential carrier bearings, and diff pin savers. They also inspected everything and said it was in good shape. It is.

Clutch - Turbos Unleashed T3 pressure plate / T2 disc combination. Works great, 8K miles on it and the new throwout bearing.

K frame - Swapped in from a manual transmission '94 Sundance for the bobble strut mount.

Exhaust System - full length 2-1/2" pipe, a Summit Racing 3 inch (yes, 3 inch), Magnaflow catalytic converter rated for a 350+ cubic inch engine, and a Dynomax Super Turbo muffler. The cat was $80, and it has about 7K miles on it now.

Other new parts - Turbos Unleashed "solid" bobble strut, and new red shifter cable bushings. Shifting is nice and smooth.

NEW Fuel pump - NAPA stock replacement pump was put in in 2/2007, replaced under warranty about 2 months ago because it quit on me. So it has a new fuel pump in it now with 2-3 K miles on it.

So basically it's the complete 5 speed setup with some nice mods and new parts in a car that's getting old and rusty.

I can't formally sell the car as such, because even though I own it, the title is being held on a loan that won't be paid off any time soon. But I don't care what the loan place thinks. So you can come here and totally part out whatever you want and leave the rest in a local junkyard, or just take the whole car and we'll have a paper signed and notarized saying that I'm selling it without a title, it can't be put on the road again, and whatever happens, it's all on you and not my problem any more.

Price for all this hard to find V6 5 speed conversion stuff and some new parts? I don't know, I know what I paid but then again I've put 8K miles on them too as of now.

Maybe around $800 and you take what you want? Either parts or the whole thing? I'm open to offers, and if anyone has a 95-99 Neon like what I'm looking for, we could possibly cash & trade for that.

Let me know what you think, I could email a few photos if you want but I've already described it all.

I don't know what cams reaper has. I measured the cams when I got them, and looked at the spec sheet but lost it. As I remember, the cams have about 0.015" more lift than stock, and about 8 degrees more @50 duration.

I ran the car at the dragstrip a few times once the new motor and cat was in, and average runs were 15.60's at 88-89 mph. It pulled good to around 5800 rpm, I didn't try shifting it higher than that.

I'd prefer to have someone come and take everything, or drive it to a local junkyard and part it out. I don't want to be involved with pulling a part here and a part there, plus I have no garage or any place to keep a non-running car.

they are not cams like reapears. Tim's are his own cam setup. They arent even close as reapers have 210 deg @ .050"

UPDATE - I may be getting a Neon next weekend, at least that's how things look right now. I'll definitely keep you posted on any news.

Chief8one - I was asking $800 for the whole car, which has EVERYTHING you need for the full 5 speed swap. See the details in the first post. I can get pictures sent to you (send me a PM with an email address), but it's just a standard P body 2 door, nothing special.

The dash panel is half disassembled becuase the heater core started leaking. It's assembled just enough to keep the car driveable. All the unscrewed parts are in the back seat, along with the box of screws. I was going to change the heater core, but it was at that time I decided to get another car entirely, so the job never got done.

Yes, I've been driving to work the past couple weeks in a car with NO HEAT. It definitely adds excitement to the morning 30 mile commute!
