If you go to NAPA, ask for the 21515 filter. It's used on the big block Dodges as well as 4.0 Exploders and a few other things.

I think Mopar3.0 is referring to the filter for the newer Ford 7.3 Super Duties. Napa has them in their Gold line, 1773 I think is the number. They are a MONSTER, fitting the darn thing would be an issue.

BTW lose the Fram. Those are about the worst filters made. I wouldn't put one on my worst enemy's ricer.

Nobody is using that Fram sweetie.
its been in my parents garage for about 6-7 years and I told my dad I have no use for it. Thats why I went to carquest ;
I wasnt planning on changing the oil here but my lifters told me otherwise. Dont want to drive back 1000 miles with my lifters grumbling at me.
Would be hard to compare vs a stock filter if I havent bought one in years :P

How much bigger is the 7.3L diesel ford filter then the 440ci etc etc etc filter?

i only mentioned the PH8A because i have a relocation kit. not sure how it would fit on a 12v block, but on the 24v block theres no way in hell a PH8A woulda fit at all. the 12v would have more luck with the wraparound exhaust vs the wrap-under on the 24v. sometimes a wonder, as the filter on the 24v stock was smaller than the one on my toyota 1.6L motor....

Measured pressure will go up. You measure after the filter.

Small filters create pressure before the filter which means less oil pressure in the block.
Less restriction means more pressure in the block
Also means you will achieve higher pressure in the block before the safety valve in the pump opens (at highest allowable pressure).

The tall filter is the equivalent of the Fram PH8A
The medium filter is the equivalent of the Fram PH43
The short fileter is the Fram PH16

I personally dislike Fram filters...but you can use the above numbers to cross reference them to the brand of your liking.


Just for reference:

The PH43 size was used on just about every small block Mopar engine from 1964 (possibly sooner) until 1990 or so, later big block cars, slant 6, etc...

The PH8A size is standard on pre-73 Big block mopars, and some later truck big blocks. Its not specific to the 440.

PH16 is what Mopar went to somewhere around 91? on the magnum small blocks.

I've been running the Car Quest version of the PH43 on my 3.0 since I bought it a few years ago.


All can be interchanged with no ill effects. (there shouldn't be any oil pressure difference!), as long as you have clearance for them.
I'd suggest you use the largest one you have room for (more filtration isn't a bad thing).

Car Quest oil filters are made by Wix.

The big one I'm thinking of is at least half again the size of the PH-8A. It's fricking huge, I wouldn't mess with the darn thing myself, but if you really want to kill a case of oil just 2 changes.....LOL.
