Hey FireCore50,
Does your company make a wire set for the 3.0 in the Dodge vehicles ?

Ondonti, you are funny! LOL
BTW, you can get the MSD ends and boots as separate parts, BUT you have to have the crimping tool(which is where they REALLY nail you...something like $90 IIRC ).
What you could do is get a DIY kit from Magnecor, then get the ends from MSD and make them up....that is my plan anyways, I just don't know what to do about that crimper since that is a heck of a lot of money for a tool I'm only going to use once in a great while. Not to mention by the time I get all the parts I'm WELL over $120 for a set or wires...DOH!

Might as well get the 10mm magnacore wires then...of course I dont think any of the cars on this website have heat problems on the wires so 10mm is probably pointless.
Id look to borrow or "loan" with a deposit some if you can find someone local who has them.
Are there any decent knockoff crimpers?

I honestly don't know. I beleive the MSD crimpers are specifically designed for their terminals. I don't know if they are proprietary to MSD or if they use a supplier for them. I *may* be able to get the crimpers through school at a small discount, but I'll have to look for them.
As for the larger wires...Eh..I think that the 8.5mm ones are plenty large enough. As you correctly stated, I don't think any of these cars have a heat issue around the wires. If they do, then I'd just use the DEI jackets over them. The other thing is I don't know how well the MSD ends would work on the larger jacket....

Just call up Magnecor they do anything you want, I got mine custom from them. It was at my door in less then a week, but there in the same state. I just gave them the lengths and angles for the boots. Maybe they can do the other connectors also? worth a shot, heck tell them that they'll pick up a few more sales from it and see what they say

If they would then that would be nice. They already have a well fitting 3.0 kit (which actually fits a few different styles of 3.0).
I think Chris worries about how well crimped they are...and I dont know if using MSD connectors ensures a good crimp.....as Ive heard a few TD mechanics say that MSD wires come apart all the time and its probably because they were a custom set not crimped properly by the owner.
I myself never owned a good normal wire crimper until I inherited one from my grandfathers old tools this last few weeks. I always used the funny made in china black painted flat piece of metal with yellow rubber handles that strips wires and "squishes" instead of crimping :P

You can also get the MSD Spark Plug Wire Mini Stripper Crimper, for only $5.04, at their online store. All you need is a vise then to do it right.
Spark Plug Wire Mini Stripper Crimper, PN 3503
The MSD 8.5 universal wire sets, I use, come with the spark plug connectors already on them. I just cut the wires for length and crimped on the distributer end connectors. The MSD wires are as good or better than anyone else's. I have checked in total darkness and never saw any arcing, or corona discharge either (if you can see that visually), and I have never once had any EM interference problems either. MSD makes very high quality, low resistance wires, that really do hold up very well.
MSD's factory crimped plug end connectors, are guaranteed not to pull off for 5 years, and you wont have any problems, if you follow their instructions, with the distributer ends you crimp on yourself.

MSD guarantees their factory crimped wires, wont pull off for 5 years, and so yes it was user error.
They probably crimped them bass ackwards.
You place the wedge, the upper part of the "mini crimper" tool dye in the above picture, on the side opposite from the part of the connector, that looks like the open end of the letter C.
Like this ... -C ... and not like this ... C- .... .
- = the tool dye wedge
C = the connector

that MSD crimping tool for $5 isnt half bad, i got one with an 8.5mm v8 universal kit and i was able to do some very nice strong coil ends on the wires. ive had to pull my wires quite often over semester break to swap out fouled plugs and i havent had a single wire pull apart at all. i kept the tool for later because its handy. made of some rynite or other hard substance. comes with cutting guides in it as well.
just my .02 relating my experience. next time ill probably ask magnecore about some custom wires with teh 24v boot ends and coil pack connectors...look more OEM on my setup :-D

Well I dont see how you could ruin a distributor crimp on our motors no matter how bad of a job you did.

yeah, the dizzy connectors arn't taken on and off as much as the spark plug ends. mine suck as they are down IN the head, not off the side like the 12v. i have to pull on the wire to get them off and use a pair of pilers to get them to click onto the spark plugs. the pre-crimped connectors haven't failed me yet *shrug* even the coil pack connectors i did are quite sturdy, but there its a 90* boot so your not pulling on the wire at all
id still like some custom ones with the 24v plug boots and GM coilpack connectors, but ill wait til i have to replace these wires, why waste them?

I dunno, but maybe, you are using the wrong boots? MSD makes these for down in the head applications. I think, the crimp connector, is also attached or molded into the boot. They are guaranteed not to pull off, for 5 years in any case, and at least you are covered that way.
On Edit: Nice diagram of how MSD wires are made.

I am sure it can be done, and just in case you take your car, to one of those mechanics you mentioned, you want them on there extra good.
