Man, something I noticed going to MSD's site...you really have to watch what terminals you order! Some of them don't appear to be the ones that crimp both the core and the jacket! While I agree that the plug end is the main one to be concerned with, I also beleive teh same quality should be carries out through the construction of the wire. I noticed that they do have an HEI style end that looks to work the way I like, but I'm unsure if it'll work with what I have(remember I have the HEI converted cap on my Shelby Z). Anyways...I'll end up doing this one of these days, just doing research right now...

I was more reffering to the way the connector crimps to the wire. Not the connector to the post...

You are right , Reaper. There are dozens of terminal types. The only ones that double-crimp are the true stainless steel ones with the sprung stainless clip, that is the keeper clip. Others are just strip and fold terminals. Meaning we fold under the stripped core, than crimp under the wire. Its not the best way to provide the ultimate contact. In alot of instances, that core with the winding breaks, possibly leaving only one or two strands of winding carrying the whole current to the terminal. Dual crimp is the best way. Too bad older Chryslers all use the brass termianls, using crimp and fold. In the summer, we designed a Chrysler-type electronic cap, thats tan to look stock, but has HEI termials on it. Very cool. Anyway, all of our crimps are machine pressed. To say we have a warrantee on the silicone not ripping would be tuff, I believe. There is no telling how people rip off their boots and wires. We manufacture dozens of ignition wires with the tubes. One and two piece. For the 426-Hemi styles, we have 4 different types.Below is for the Indy Legend. The valvecovers are 1/2 inch taller than stock. We shrink-wrap the plastic tube to the silicone dustcover. For Stage 5's, its this way also. Here are the one piece. Anybody recognize the original use ?

Here are Top Fuel's..

The cap I'm using on my 2.2 has been converted to use HEI style connectors. It was done by a private person and is very nice IMHO using brass terminals and all. No more stupid spade terminals that clip in to the cap! Hence why I'm looking for double crimp HEI terminals...

If you like , I'll send you a piece of our 8 or 8.5 with the double-crimp so you can see what it looks like.. If you like the magnecore better, I'll get you a better deal on those terminals if you like.. IN fact, if you like the magnecores, buy their wire, mark your lengths, and we'll crimp cheaper than they would.. Doesn't matter. Just would like you to see and feel our wire and how it compares..

Lookin, yeah the OEM wires for the 24v are like one of the last two (cant tell off hand ATM, still at school). i ended up buying a cut-to-fit v8 kit at the local parts store cause i was trying to get the car done to go to school. i needed some wires that would fit in the head and had GM coilpack connectors on the other end. didnt look that hard so *shrug* i would like a better set later on that looks more like it should be there...

as for the coilpack terminals, the crimp ones i did had 2 crimp parts, one for the insulated whole wire and one part just for the connector. there was also a SS clip where the connector went onto the coil post. for me it'll probably come down to cost, i didnt like the fact i shelled out about $110 for the kit, but i DO have one more spare wire left.

FireCore, if you know what boots were used on a 2000-2005 Eclipse GT(S), those are the boots id be looking for on the spark plug end, with 90* GM coilpack boots on the other end.

Shaddow. I know how it is. The first set of wires, I cut, are way too long, and a couple of them got nicked up by "a mechanic". I got a new set of MSD 8.5 superconductors, and next week, when it warms up a little more, I am going to do them right. They are going to be on there a while, and so it is worth it to me.

Now I am just waiting for FireCore50 to answer my question. I love how all the "good wires now", are using the same crimp connectors that MSD uses, and yet their "wires" are supposedly better. I really like the MSD no pull-off guarantee.

Still trying to find the no rip guarantee.. MSD does not make the terminal's. They buy them from vendors. Thats usually how manufacturing processes work. Again, ask any Top Fuel team why they change their coil wires after every pass , and complete sets every 8 pass's. MSD recommends they do. The cheap dielectric layer built with a high clay content creates hot spots and they burn out . On our Top Alcohol team cars, 50 passes and zero signs of failure. This year you will see our wires making it to T/F and F/C. Slowly, but we will be there.. You have MSD's on the caravan ?

And wires like magnacores dont have that hot garbage dielectric layer at all so nothing to burn out.

Lookin, here is the warranty from MSD you like. 8.5mm Super Conductor Spark Plug Wire

Im guessing both you and I know the answer to your question now

Here's the MSD thing about the terminals not coming off:

8.5mm Super Conductor Spark Plug Wire
Quote:
Dual Crimp Terminals
All of the MSD spark plug terminals feature "Dual Crimp" terminals. As the name implies, the terminals feature two crimps: One for the sleeve of the wire and another separate crimp to grasp the conductor of the wire.
By having separate crimps, the conductor doesn't need to bent 180° and get squeezed between the terminal and sleeve. The individual conductor crimp produces a more secure crimp and there is less chance of spark arcing to the engine block or exhaust through the boot. In fact, we feel so strongly about our Dual Crimp terminals that every factory crimped plug wire is guaranteed not to "pull off" for FIVE years!
To be honest there are only two reaons I have MSD wires on my car:
1: becuase that is the type of wire the person who made the cap supplied
2: becuase it was available in black. I preffer this becuase I don't like drawing attention to my engine mods and red wires kind of stand out! LOL

I will eventually replace them...but for now they work...
