Magnecore wires are OK. These have better sockets though. They wont pull off like Magnecore's will. I have had Magnecore wires, and they pulled off.

These have really held up though.

MSD 8.5mm Super Conductor Spark Plug Wire Sets

You cut and crimp them to your own specs. It's easy to do also.

I bet you could get them from Cindy at FWD.

Like stated, I also have had a few sets of Magnecor wires. They are decent...then use the Jacob's Electronics ends, but they tend to pull off(even with dielectric grease). I've also used Jacob's wires(that's how I know about the ends), same story.

I now have MSD wires...so far so good..I like them!

I have a set. They never pulled off.

I have read tons of stories recently about the MSD wires being great except they are the WORST for ALWAYS pulling apart.

Lots of mechanics on TD saying that the msd's always come apart when at their shop. Its the reason I am not getting them right now...I am also concerned with most plug wires boots being correct.

MSD wires are supposed to be great except...they pull apart every time.
Do the ends in that set fit? 115 degree or whatever ours are?
Is that the kit you bought and used? I dont like the idea of buying the wrong ones for 85 dollars. Or useing different parts then the kit came with.

I want to know who sells our magnacores....fwd at least doesnt list them.

That is the exact set I used. It is the, cut and crimp yourself, set for V8. That way, I have two wires left over, just in case I need one. I have a real crimper. I wouldn't use the little plastic one they include with their kit.

They fit perfect. Here is a pic of them on my engine.

You can see I cut that set a little too long. It was my first time cutting wires.

Three years ago I bought a set of Magnecore's. I was warned not to get them by several people. They all said, Magnecore plug connectors tend to weld to the plug terminals, and the plug ends pull off easily. I sure wish, I had listened to them, because it turned out they were right. That is exactly what happened. I have never heard that the other way around Brent, and I can't find anything on the net about that.

MSD wires have very low resistance, and they are extremely durable. They also don't leak, crossfire ark, and the pug end boots on my 3 year old set aren't heat deformed at all. The Magnecore's did melt a little, and like I said, they really don't hold up as well.

The coil wire, on that set, is female at the distributor output side. That's perfect though, if you use the Dodge [p# 8228] 5.9 truck coil, that you see in that pic. They output 12,000 more volts than stock. Not enough to make you go through caps and rotors, as fast as hotter coils do, and yet you still get a better spark. They also fit the stock coil mount.

Well, that's my setup anyway.

Good luck with those Magnecore's. Hope they work out.

mmmm that set says l6v6 so I am a bit confused if thats actually the set you bought.

Do you have any pics of the connectors to the plug?

It also says "8 multiangle"

grr

I still havent picked a wire and I dont want to wait 4 years for FWD performance.
I Run a 5.0 mustang coil which is nice and hot :P
48,000 I think.......well my spirit has stock stuff right now actually. its got junkyard wires that have tape on them etc

My magnacors were purchased in 2002. Never burned, never melted, never pulled off. I removed them soo many times (at least a thousand) that some of them I have to sorta tighten up because ive beat the crap out of them.
The only problem I had was when they were brand new...they some sometimes "pop off" the spark plugs (this stopped happening).

Take it easy there tiger.

Yep, you're right, that link goes to the V6 set. Summit didn't have those when I bought mine. I forgot. Sorry about that.

I know how you feel about Summit's catalog. It is clear as mud, and even wrong sometimes. Their tech guys are pretty good though. Well most of them anyway. I would just call their toll free number 1-800-230-3030 and ask if that set has straight boots. That's what you're worried about right? Don't let them steer you to the MSD 8 mm, blue ones, or something like that. Get the 8.5 Super Conductors. Just give him that part number on that page.

By "multi-angle" they mean you can bend them to the angle you want. Just put them all on a throw-away plug, that you have in a vise, then again a strong guy like you don't need no stinkeeeen vice, and then click the boot on and bend it to you're liking.

If you get a tech idiot, just politely excuse yourself, with something like, ... OMFG! the drapes are on fire! I gotta go! ... , and then redial and try to find a good one. Usually, the more gruff ones know their stuff better. Same as with mechanics.

PS

4 years for FWD performance. Good one.

Summit Racing is FAST.

You'll like those MSD wires Brent.

Maybe Magnecore wires were better back in 2002, and who knows what year those were made even?

A thousand times? Reading pugs to keep track of you turbo setup A/F mix etc? hmmm Maybe that's why yours didn't weld on. Me, I only read my plugs, maybe, twice a year. Lazy good fer nothin old bat I am.

The ones I got, 3 years ago, were not as good as you describe. The plug boots on mine popped off too. Trouble is, they didn't stop doing that, ..... until they welded on!

I hate Summit Racings 10$ handling fee on any online order, fortunately I live about 15mins from the one in tallmadge ohio so I tend not to order things online

I thought Turbovanman sold aurora wires which where said to be really good. Others had commeted saying they work really well and he sold sets for the 3.0L. I was going to look into buying a set soon after I get some other things straightened out.

Yeah. True. That handling fee works out to be more than ground shipping too. Thing is though, their prices are really good, they have never messed up my order, and they ship immediately. So it works out to be a better deal than a lot of places.

You live 10 minutes from them? That's a lucky break. I bet it's fun to shop there. It would be like, oooooo, I can't believe they still sell those. I'll take two! ... and one of those, and that, and this ...

They really don't sell crap for the 3.0's other than maintenance items, which sucks, even my stealth is out in the cold for any good performance items! I'm there maybe 3 times a year and thats usually for the shows they hold.

As for prices, not always that great, for the fidanza flywheel they want 380$ for it! I'm thinking of printing off a page from www.ultrarev.com for theres which is on sale for 303.xx$ and see if they can beat it!

I think the issue we are running in to with the ends is the material the wire jackets are made of. They are all mostly silicon type material..which doesn't hold up well when torn(and crimping the wires usually does tear the jacket). ANY of the wires that are made of this material *could* have this issue.

So far my MSD set I've not had any problems with(knocking on wood), but I also use dielectric grease.

I did the same with the Magnecor and the Jacobs...BOTH had the ends come off...this was back in 2000 or so.

i went with an MSD universal v8 kit when i went DIS, and it comes with a crimper and cutting jig so its hard to mess up with them. ive pulled em a number of times so far and they are holding together fine (no dielectric though) and they click on tight to the plugs, only downside was the 8.5mm kit i bought was around $100 from advance auto

*shrug* my $.02

but does anyone know if that kit lookin posted is the proper one. Universal will not work for me cause I refuse to spend big bucks and then find the POS kit has 90 deg boots or some crap like that.
