So I guess I was missreading that post. The Dynamod is some electronic device that bolts to their distributor..........the other is the demon coil which has a brass terminal......which I dont think will make a difference.

Rougetrip...that was a GREAT read. I touched on everything just enough to make sense, be accurate, but not be confusing. Of course they didn't get in to the whole plug wire thing, but eh. I suggest that people read that site for sure!

Oh, Ondonti...I read that site about the 5.0 part you were looking at. Yeah, all it is is a modded TFI unit for the standard 5.0 ignition. It must have some sort of electronic wizardry in there that is able to tell the coil to saturate for a longer period of time. It has nothing to do with the coil itself.

So what could be a possible benefit to their more expensive coils? (or the ones other people sell)

Faster saturation times and the ability to fire a higher voltage(*if needed*).

Read that info page that Rougetrip posted up. It really is good!

Here is another decent read about how you get ripped off with sprial-core wires

Truth About Ignition Wire Conductors

This just shows that the KV85s should be good wires

Ignition Coils - summitracing.com

Here are various 5.0 coils. Unfortunately information is not very well filled out for each coil.

Wondering about the rpms of those mallory coils and also that the accell has a much larger ratio or turns on the secondary yet it has the same 48k voltage as the MSD.

The MSD only lists itself as 300ma also. So it is worse then stock?

Mallory 30625 - Mallory Promaster e Series Ignition Coils - summitracing.com
Crane Cams 730-0892 - Crane LX92 E-Core Ignition Coils - summitracing.com

What would prevent us from using one of these coils.
Lower voltage but they can provide 500mA

Looking at coils is making me want to make sure I get a coil that don't have a spark duration so long that it wont handle the rpm's I might want to use.

Make sure the primary resistance isn't over 15% of what the stock coil's resistance is. You don't want to burn up the driver within the PCM that controls the coil's spark controls.

Well I've decided to run the stock coil for a while and upgrade it later with performance wires. The Dodge coil sounds better to me since it will bolt to the stock bracket.

The stock ignitions(on the turbo cars) are proven to work well under very high demands. Hell, I run 20-22#'s of boost on a stock coil, MSD wires and the cap was converted to the HEI style connectors. Plugs are NGK BPR5ES (IIRC) gapped at .027".

I'm not sure I even really need to have the gap that small, I just did it as a preventative thing.

The place where they need improvement is if you start turning the engine faster than stock(especially for long periods of time), or under VERY high boost/N2O levels.

This isn't to say there is no improvement to be had by running an MSD system or the like, but it isn't a NEEDED thing...

Should the coil off a 5.0 HO '92 Mercury Cougar be the same as the 5.0 'stang one? If so, I've got one kicking around in the garage I should try.
