We were going to put the car on the dyne this weekend and then pull them out for inspection, but other things have come up. It will probably be several more weeks until get to it now. ...but the car is still running just fine.

Oh, well OK. Have you noticed any changes in performance so far? Any changes in gas mileage for instance?

Not really.

On mileage - It's hard to track gas mileage when you let your car warm up for 5-10 minutes in the driveway each morning.

On power - I have no idea. It's been awhile since I installed them and I tend to not beat on my car in winter weather. I have no idea if I'm up 5hp, down 5hp, or dead even.

Eventually we'll find out on the dyne and we'll find out if they've sustained any wear or degredation. My guess is that they will show a small gain (like every other mod) and come out looking like they did when they went in. But who knows.

It be a plate that goes under the header with a load of "tongues" sticking out that modify the SSR and restrict the port for better velocity.

Exhaust 'port' inserts are a great idea, and it would be great if their prototype works out. It would be another easy bolt on mod for the 3.0.

Wish them good luck, and hope for the best.

Edit: changed manifold to ports

Are you referring to these little guys?......they apparently work well with headers, they are inserted into the collector to redirect the gas flow, changing the exhaust note.

No....roadwarrior just misstyped. they are in the exhaust port. I wouldnt put whatever is in that picture into my exhaust flow.

Those are *exhaust inserts*...they're made by Car Chemistry...these have been around for years, they're mostly used by racers who need to keep the db level of their cars down below a certain max level set by the various sanctioning race bodies. Originally designed to replace an open style muffler for race applications (the entire exhaust is literally an open design), they are finding their way into road going cars to quieten the exhaust note by redirecting the gas flow and allowing it to cool so as to reduce the drone from hot gases. They do work.

but that has nothing to do with this thread.

We are modifying the exhaust port of the head...not sticking something into it. The inserts are required because you cant use epoxy in the exhaust port and welding is difficult and pricey.

should work. back in the 70's Boss 302 modders used to use exhaust inserts to restrict the massive exhaust ports of the Boss 302 to help give it more torque.

Same with the Hemi engines....Killing velocity in the port is not the way to go to gain flow...volume only goes so far.
