I was at the j-yard today pulling a fuse panel and some bolts from a crank pulley, while pulling the bolts I noticed the engine had a plastic power steering pump pulley. The pulley had six ribs and EGR which makes it 92+, Does anyone know if they ever made any Plastic pulleys for the 90-91 models, or if the pulleys are the same Diameter so i could put it on my tona? Mine is steel and sure it robs some small amount of HP

I do know the belts are different lengths, the 90 is 71.5 while the 92+ are 81.5 but not sure if its the extra idler pulley that adds that length?!

I'm pretty sure the steel pulley/earlier serpentine setup uses a thinner belt.

You can probably still run it because he has the smaller belt. He can also just change the whole pully system.

I would like to collect a bunch of plastic pullies though. I want a plastic tensioner pulley and one of the power steering ones. Maybe a couple so I can put them on both cars

You can use six rib pulleys (92+) on a 5 rib (87-91) system, but not the other way around, I have a BPE underdrive pulley which is 6 ribs thats been on the car for around 2 years now. As long as the Diameter is the same on the pulley or nearly the same I can swap it on and adjust the slack on the Alternator bracket arm with no worries about the 6th rib. I would of pulled the one on the j-yard engine but there was a chunk missing in it.

I thought about changing the system, but too lazy and don't want an extra Idler pulley in the system which means more friction. My tensioner was replaced shortly after I got the car (paid like $60+) which came with a plasic idler on it.

Felt harder than nylon when I was tapping it with my fingers but could be wrong.

Did ALL 92+ vehicles come with them? I don't think the donor 92 daytona Iroc engine I pulled had a Plastic pulley a few years back when I did my 5speed swap.

Thats weird, because I gave my friend an alternator off a 90 Spirit for his 92 Daytona and it was eating serpentine belts because of the thinner pulley.
Wait nevermind, I was thinking backwards. The 6 rib belt doesn't like the 5 rib pulley.
