I don't think I'm too interested in casting custom bellhousing just yet but I was thinking about welding a 3.0 flange to a R154 bellhousing. I have a ton of research yet before I start cutting. I'm still learning how to weld aluminum at the moment. TIG is a PIA.

The T56 is a good option but a bit pricey when compared to the Toyota unit

Yeah, but I believe rebuilds for it are dang cheap and bulletproof.

My friend has a 2jz is running in front of a r154 and he doesnt seem scared. He welded up a custom shifter extender to fit his lexus.

Maybe you could tack something up and then pay someone to finish it off.

Well they sell 3.8L mivec eclipses up there. I say build a 3.0 car first, get it to run/drive, then when you want to upgrade the motor, the most badass import 6 motor in the world is just a wrecked eclipse away from being in your car. You will already have the trans bolt pattern figured out etc.

That's the plan. Get the car fabbed up and drivable with with a basic 3.0 and then go hunting for the most badass 6G I can find. A 3.8 or 3.5 mivec with a a turbo or two (depending on packaging) is the eventual goal. I need to go find a 3.0 bellhousing. I don't want to hack the bellhousing flange of my A543 because it took me months to find one in Canada. I need to buy some parts and start cutting them up

The only real common 24V heads in canada are the 2.5 SOHC 24V or pay top dollar for some heads from a Stealth. I'm not far from Detroit so I can take a day trip to the USA and find some parts.

What rear end would you guys use? I've looking at a an 8.8 out of a Ford Explorer - comes with rear disk brakes and posi. I would just have to get it narrowed and some custom axles. Or shall I bite the bullet and go... say 8.8 IRS from a Thunderbird?

Either one would be fine, just what you think would be better/easier

I was thinking I'd have to use one from a manual trans for some reason but you're right. I could find an A604 case very easily.

Have an adapter plate built for a common bell housing/trans, such as mustang 5 speed.

Tremec is building T-5's to handle over 600 lbft of torque now. Only issue is that they're just a bit pricey. Just look at any Jeg's or Summit Racing Catalogs.

Why build a custom bellhousing to use an inferior + more expensive trans? Only people who should ever use an upgraded t5 are people who get them from the factory in their car :P

Get it right the first time :P

T-5's have powered alot of Mustangs into the low 11's, there cheap and parts are everywhere. If you want an affordable 5 speed RWD, there is not any better and cheaper. Build a motor plate and bolt it in. He asked for a 5 speed I gave him the info needed.

But they are weaker, and upgrading the trannies that are already stronger is cheaper. Built t56 is cheap!
I would rather use a supra r154 then a t5. Bone stock it will handle what the t5 cant handle when built and its cheap.

t-5's are cheap because nobody wants them.

a413 has powered a charger to 8.0 1/4 mile and 7.8 in the srt, So t-5 and 11's doesnt impress anyone :P
Tders do that with a simple upgrade on the converter.
