Thanks for the info on the cams, I'm definitely contacting them about that to see if I can get it lined up for next month.

I'm using stock valve springs at the moment, and I've even accidentally revved to about 10k RPM before by downshifting into 2nd at 90+ (I know stupid, but at least the lower end is built for it) with no ill effects. I've never had any problems with revving above 7000 on the stock valve springs.

I have looked at the Megasquirt, and it just isn't ideal for me. I'd rather keep the E-MU.

Your Welcome, any way i can help :) and on the Megasquirt. just thought id throw it out there, i like it and its cost effective, especially in my situation.

you hit 10,000 and it didnt go BOOM? wow, that says alot about the motor construction. how'd you manage that anyways? mis-shift? IIRC the usual advice was if you went above 6500, you "needed" better valvesprings.

Yeah I mis-shifted into 2nd instead of 4th. But a properly-equipped 6G72 with supporting valvetrain mods can rev to the moon if anybody were inclined to do so with it. 76 mm stroke has a lot of potential for revving.

It's wise to have better valvesprings. But if the stock limit is 6510, then I'd assume 7000 +/- 250 is perfectly safe. Mitsubishi didn't design the valvesprings such that they are completely inadequate just above the stock limit.

You can use a set of 24 "beehive" valve springs for a 4.6 Modular actually. Somebody discovered this for the 4G64 on Club3G and I pointed out that they would also work for the 24 V SOHC 6G72 since it's valvetrain is practically identical to the 4G64.

Comp Cams high-load valve springs designed for a boosted application, set of 24: 26125-24 (they're about 1/2 the price of RPW springs)

Nice! ill have to see about going that route, trying to keep my build costs down. the revvability of the 3.0 is one of the reasons i went that way instead of the 3.5. im hoping to go above 7000 maybe to 8000 or 8500 with my setup. I know there must be a set out there that was the right size but wasnt "specifically" for the 3.0. Only thing that worries me is the oil pump gears.

btw, where did you have your heads PnP and at what cost?

Nice runs on both vids. I wonder how the TT guy would have liked the car on 14 psi with alky.

The oil pump gears on our 6G72 are more than adequate. You've taken the oil pump apart before, right?

I P&P'd my heads myself with a die grinder and some attachments from Standard Abrasives. I have a whole album of pics, but I can't post links just yet... lol

Thanks. I'm pretty satisfied since it's my first job. I know it killed my boost threshold a few hundred RPM (I ported the exhaust ports 4 mm over), but it'll make up for that in top-end. I'm thinking about doing my spare set of heads. I'll flow-bench them stock, P&P them, have a 3-or-5-angle valvejob done and then bench them again. I'd be willing to let some go for $1000 even. Then minus $300 if I got 2 good cores in return. Not sure if you'd be interested.

its a bit steep for me at the moment. ill keep it in mind. $700 isn't bad, and i have good cores. On the exhaust, the 4mm over might be fine for me as im going roots and not turbo so the lost velocity isn't as critical. do you have flow numbers on your ported heads? im kinda curious what they flow. Im hoping with a good PnP and cams, ill be good for a while :)

No idea what they flow, but it was a real mild port job IMHO. If you just wanted a set of cores P&P'd, I could do that for $300; it's the machine work that I was factoring in.

But like I said, I might have a spare set of ported heads laying around if I get bored. I'll definitely have them flow-benched before and after. I neglected to last time because I wanted the engine together ASAP.

we'll see. Im not sure if there has really been any wild PnP jobs done on the 24v heads (that i know of). Theres a guy that does PnPs on the 2.2/2.5 and 12v 3.0s here, i was hoping to give him a dead 24v head so he could play with the flow #s and velocities before getting a set of heads done. (hes a big proponent of proper velocities over raw flow #s)

btw, that cammed 74 on your photobucket album sounds nice. im hoping a stage 3 on a 3.0 would yield good #s and sound great :)

Duster is nicely built, too bad the other car hasn't produced better on its newer motor.
