So today i desided to learn how to take the 6g72 apart. The engine on my 1990 Dodge Daytona ES Desided to start making very loud noises as i was driving home. it all started when i desided to red line for 5 seconds then let go of the clutch then shifted to second and red lined again then BAM i lost oil pressure and the car turned off. I went to start it and i had oil pressure but the engine started making very loud noices as if i was dragging some pop cans on the back.

Anyway it sat in the garage for about 8 months then i desided to start it up, and it started up right away still made noise but i desided to completely blow the motor up by doing burouts red lining it for a LONG time several times but it wont die i kept trying but no succes. I was amazed so i desided to take it apart. And the thing is that ive never taken an engine apart but it was super easy

well what do you think that noise in the engine could be? it doesnt sound like its the valves. it sounds like its the crank shaft like its loose or something.

You got the intake and valve covers off... and you don't have any of the tools needed for further disassembly?

I think this project is just a tad above your skill level.

give him a little slack, i didn't necessarily have the tools and know-how to do the 24v swap, but i dove in and did it anyway. and learned a hell of a lot while doing it!

to the OP - i'd remove the engine first as you can use the exhaust manifolds as lift points on the engine crane to pull the motor out. with a headless motor, you'd have to be creative for attachment points. the engine hoist and a load leveler are HIGHLY advisable for pulling the motor. and an engine stand is a big help for after you pull the motor

to remove the heads, you need at least the chiltons/haynes manual for the loosening sequence of head bolts and a set of allen sockets. you need a big allen socket for the head bolts (which are torque to yield and technically not reusable). Also, drain the coolant system as there is a LOT of coolant in the heads. One suggestion is to use a shop vac to suck the majority of the coolant out of the block so when you the the heads off you don't spill coolant all over the place and get it into the cylinders.

also, how far are you tearing this motor down and for what goal?

there are a lot of bosses on the engine block to remove the motor with if you have a hoist. Its actually quite easy with the heads off. you just need to have enough of the right size bolt. I have lots of bolts all organized to certain size groups.

yes, follow the instructions on the head sequence when you take it apart. Also, try to remove the brass block coolant plugs from both sides of the engine. Wet dry vac is probably a good idea cause the plug on the front of the block might be hard to get at. Not sure if that will actually work though.

if you removed the water pump, that would drain the block nicely. $2 gasket

Nice lookin Daytona. If you redlined the motor that much you probably spun a bearing or something. I made one of my 3.0L's peg the tach a few times and it started knocking really bad. YouTube - Blown 3.0L V6 I drove it for 100 miles like that before it seized, the rod cap came completely off and the rod bolts were in the oil pan along with bearing flakes.

Its likely you had a bad motor to begin with. 3.0 electronics cant rev high enough to worry about a healthy motor coming apart. Unless your rev limiter is broken. Jeremy used to have a 3.0 computer with a broken rev limiter.

hey thanx for the tips thats going to help. like i said ive never taken a motor apart. the only reason im doing it is for practice since im guessing the engine is useless well not completly useless cause it has a brand new timming belt, water pump, and im porting the plenum and intake manifolds just for fun so when i get the other engine i can just swap in the ported parts.

And thanx, it is a good looking daytona very nice original paint 99.7% rust free. only 85,000 miles on the engine and body. It has power nothing wich is great for weight. whe i took it to the track for the first time, i had removed the rear seats, carpet, jack and spare tire, all rear plastic panels, passenjer seat, pretty much every thing ecxept my seat and dash. and the scale showed 2,700-lbs. but all that didnt help much because i had just learned to drive a stick and when it came my turn to race i was lined up with a grand national (oh and this was my first time to ever race at a track) so i was nervous. we both got readdy and whent at it, whent from 1st to 2nd to 5th then back to 4th but it was still not right so i whent to 3rd then 4th and finaly 5th by that time the grand national was finished with 11sec somthing 1/4 mile and me with 17 something i felt like an idiot and when i whent back all My friend made fun of me. fun TiMEs

Only 85K miles? Very nice car imo. I have one of those steering wheel covers, and I like it. Mine says Dodge though.

Nice Daytona.

hahaha i knew some one was going to comment on the steerring wheel cover. It used to be on my Ford Bronco and my ex-ex bought it for me. Anyway i used it cause its super comfortable and i was used to it, but now that i desided to Fix it im just going to buy the mopar version of it.

yah thax its in very good shape it turns heads i just hate the SNOW FLaKe wheels.

I actuly traded a RICED OUT 3speed 4door Pontiac sunfire with a fart can and 206,000miles for this daytona From an old farmer his grand son had just gotten his drivers license and didnt know how to drive a manual trans and aparently the kid liked my sunfire so we traded.
