Yes, its fun, but got scary. Thought the motor blew up twice but it was just spark blowout because I didnt regap the .032" plugs to .025 which worked well on the dyno. I might go a bit smaller cause this is running more boost and is a higher compression motor.
Feeling the car violently try to stop because the motor fouls out the plugs and then lets of a massive set of methanol backfires = scary. Almost as scary as losing the ability to stay in your lane. First time it backfired the engine died cause I pushed the clutch in while it was misfiring. I thought I killed the motor for sure!

I am temporarily using Bansheenut's smaller meth pump because mine is a POS that keeps failing.
Half a gallon of methanol was used in the making of this video.

Remember, this is 24psi boost on a big turbo, not 24psi of mostly backpressure caused by a tiny turbo.

As I have said, if you avoid detonation the weak link is the rings...

E85 + meth is keeping the EGT's to only 1490 degrees right now. I think that is saving the rings from butting.
16psi with no meth was 1650 degrees and no damage.

The issue is more changing the temper of the rings so they don't seal as well

Hey Brent,
The rings are initially "spring loaded" against the cylinder walls, light pressure. When combustion occurs, gas pressure adds to the ring pressure, making the seal. If the rings are overheated, they lose their original "spring load" & relax. When the cylinder fires, the gas pressure is equal, inside-outside of rings, & they won't seal.
The signs are burn marks down the side of the piston.

Well I guess pretty soon I will start getting a bunch of blowbye, IF the rings are getting hot enough.
I have never run an EGT on an n/a 3.0 so I don't know what kind of heat they see.

My stupid ISP wont download the video! :(

Brent, I think E85 is lighter, less dense, than plain gasoline. I wonder if it may help to dial back slightly on fuel pressure. Installing and MSD spark box may help with your spark blowout issue too.

I dunno. It may be worth considering though.

Well I just replaced the billion year old dry rotted ZIEX tires with these much larger 225/60r15 Kumho ASX (25.65" diameter vs 23.4" previous tire). I don't drive in boost much. I know people who go through tires fast, and I am not that kind of driver. Pretty sure if I drove like that I would have a pile of tickets.

I have only done the toe so far. 3/16" out. Honestly in 4th gear with decent power its still scary. Thats why I only did 4th twice in those videos.

I will likely be hotwiring my coil at least temporarily using a relay and 25 amp fuse. I was talking about some plug stuff yesterday with Simon. Ignition upgrades are not in my budget right now and I haven't done any research on them.

I will pull the plugs and see if NGK/Denso BR9es's will start on e85 as well. I am just running 2 stage colder champion coppers right now. Going to gap them to .024 for the time being even with the coil hotwired.

My experience is that even if you cant feel spark blowout, it still might be happening and robbing horsepower! 3000gt guys always have problems with spark blowout and they almost always only rely on the feeling of the car "blowing up" to figure out when its happening. IMO thats not the way to do things. For 3000gt's the answer is usually "HKS twinpower" and I haven't researched that either. They still use smaller gaps but apparently their ignition systems are not so good.

Simon was also saying that there are better 5.0 coils out there but I just didnt find them when I was doing research cause it seemed that the upgrades were basically stock coils with fancy stickers. I don't know how to pick between coils that appear to be the same.

If you can get past the OE lookalike thang.

Consider the MSD 8228 coil. It looks almost exactly the same as our OE coil, fitting our stock coil mount perfectly, but the output terminal is HEI. I think HEI is a plus myself.

At 35,000 Volts it is a bit hotter than the OE 3.0 coil. Primary Resistance is 1.200 ohms. Secondary resistance is 13.7K ohms. Inductance value is 8.0 mH. It's a good match for our 3.0.

Cost is $44.95 at Summit.

Find it here. MSD-8228 coil

Or you can get an OE Dodge 5.9L coil. Same thing as above, basically. Not quite as hot though.

I am more interested on advice about spark boxes. I am pretty stuck on the 5.0 coil as I see it being better then the stock so an MSD 5.0 coil :P
I dont really understand the point of spark boxes except the fact that they draw straight from the battery, which is why I want to hotwire my coil.
