I know this has been discussed before but I couldn't find the info. What sort of clearance issues are there with installing a sohc stealth lower intake on the chryco lower end? I thought I remember Mopar3.0 using a stealth lower? As far as I can tell there would be clearance problems with just the distributor. Anyone know what rad hose to use?

I would be able to tell you right now...except that the guy I just bought my stealth intake from sent me a DOHC lower instead of a SOHC lower by accident :(

From what I recall on mopar3.0's intake there was clearance issues with the thermostat housing.

I forgot about the thermostat housing. Do you know what mopar3.0 did to fix the clearance issue? I'm going to pick up a stealth lower soon and do some playing around to try and achieve a flatter torque curve. Maybe with some crower regrinds.

Speaking of the crower regrinds - Does anyone know if they are emission test friendly? My car is tested yearly and I just squeaked by this year with the original cat on my car (89 spirit)

Ive been wanting to make an intake really really bad for the car and thought about using a stealth lower. I actually was looking for a montero intake like what brent used because it will directly bolt on. Pretty sure mopar 3.0 used the whole stealth sohc intake just cut off the original plenum and tigged on a bigger one. I like his intake but im boosting my motor so that style wont work but from what i remember he was able to relocate the therm housing with some welding maybe?

Ok, so I can confirm a couple things. It is NOT an easy bolt-up. The way I tried to make things work (was unsuccessful in time for drag racing so it's back on the bench until winter) was to cut/grind off part of the thermostat housing. Since on the stealth's the intake is flipped the other way so it sits over the transmission. This would be fine except it sits a lot lower than the Chrysler therm. housing. So, I had to cut part of it off to clear the distributor and grind away at the bottom of it to clear the water pump. I even ground away a bit at the water pump. Eventually I went to far and went right through the bottom of the housing so I need to get it welded back up before going further. The small tube coming from the main coolant tube running through the valley needs to be tweaked to work as well. Use the Chrysler housing cap as the stealth one hits the dizzy again. Also, a hole for the coolant sensor needs to be drilled/tapped somewhere on the housing.

If I had to do it over again I'd look at a montero lower and a complete custom upper intake. It was still worth the $100 to have the intakes side-by-side and see the differences. However, I think I will go forward with a modified Chrysler lower instead of the stealth. I'll still finish the stealth intake just so I can compare how each style will perform in the end, but that won't be for a few months now.

i has to take about a half inch from the borrom on the t stat housing and cut the side off that hits the dizzy and then tap new holes for sensors

and its cast aluminum so it must be tig welded

Excellent info. So other than the T-stat housing everything else clears?
