Is it normal to be able to see tiny sparks coming from the spark plug wires? i was fixing something on my car with the engine running out side in the dark. i had one of those battery powered lamps so i could see in the enginebay, but then it fell on the ground and broke and when i looked back in the engine bay i saw very small sparks jumping all around the spark plug wires.

All the wires that were tuching metal were sparking and even when i would grab a wire you could see the little sparks.

Does this mean that the wires are too old and im loosing spark since its not all making it to the spark plugs. I also saw that the wires that were loosing spark had a very thin spark jumping from the wire to the distributer but the ones that werent loosing spark had a more agressive and better looking spark

Why? There are small holes or cracks in your plug wires, and the electricity is arcing out to the nearest grounded metal. All that spark the is going eslwhere is not making it to your plugs. You're probably at least experiencing a misfire under acceleration because of it.
So yes, new wires are a good idea.

Check all of your ground wires as well, they may be corroded and contributing to the problem. My brothers Shadow (with 254K miles on it and original wires ) made a rather impressive light show at night around the plug wire looms. The wires were obviously bad, but reconnecting the strap that goes across the passenger side mount was enough to make most of the display go away.

Thanx guys my Tona was running like CRAP for about 3 weeks and i was daily driving it. it had no power it missfired all the time under acceleration, you could hear wierd explotion like sounds comming from the engine i was so frustated with the car.

I took the car to 2 good mechanics and they couldnt find the problem. Finaly i met this guy that has a few drag cars and he found out that 1 of the 4 wires that go to the distributer were not connected properly and with the engine vibration it would come on and off thats why my car seemed to have bad timing or lack of fuel pressure i thought that maybe one of the injecters were bad.

So i got that taken care of with some new connections and electrical tape and that car seemend to run fine at normal driving but when i got on the gas it misfired bad so i got out the car opened the hood and saw a LIGHT SHOW hehehe. So today i when to autozone and bought some wieres and swaped them out right at the store.

when i started the car it was an even and smooth idle and no more misfire at high RPMs. i was super happy my car is back to normal and even better than before. I can now rev to 6,000 RPM unlike before when it seemed to loose power at about 4,500 RPM.

I think that today is the First time i get to TRULY drive the car with ZERO problems. It drives and responds amazing, it makes me wonder how much better this cars were when they were brand new.

Thanx to all now i get to enjoy my car after two years. hehehe
