welded up and installable. needs to be cleaned up. The welds could have been better but i dont take my time on things that are for me and not someone else.

its hard to get things right when you have to line things up on the motor and then drive down the road to weld. If i could have tacked it up on the motor we wouldnt have to tape things in place and cross our fingers. it worked though.

a 3/8th inch flange would make things easier. i hacked a crossover flange off of my space crossover and it didnt line up until i grinded it down a bit. thicker header flange would fix this.

for my first ever attempt with very little prep, im satisfied. if i make one for the front, it will be much nicer (because people will notice that one :P) tigged and shiny :)

Ill double check the wall

Im sure they will work, i dont remember seeing any damage. The block has 100k origonal miles so unless the wall is messer up, they should work. Ill send em back if they don't

Thanks again

you don't have a knock sensor set up do you? you could have been hitting pre-ignition or detonation to melt the piston like that.

you might want to look into running a knock sensor with your MS. (KnocksenseMS is decent). And you probably can gank the sensor mount from a 24v SOHC and use it. It goes in the valley and bridges both banks.

I am for sure going to be running a knock sensor when I finally boost my 24v. cheap insurance IMO

I have wondered if you burned the piston instead.

no hiding that the piston got melted.. its not chipped or jagged.. its nice and smooth and kinda moooshed in

i agree with the knock sensor and would love to do it. that being said, the pre ignition probably happened for a few reasons

13:1afr for a moment while in boost (8-11psi?)
more timing that i had been running (4degreese ave across the map)
high egt from crap rear manifold

13:1 afr came from me doing a pull in 5th.. i overboosted earlier than normal and got to an untuned part of the map. this is fixed with EWG so i can fine tune 8psi and never go over unless i want to. I changed the timing back to what it was, my name isnt Brent :P Rear manifold is replaced so EGT will be down a bit i would assume.

knock detection is on the list though.

KnocksenseMS

or you can use a GM conditioner an sensor if you can find a safe place to tap the block.

Megamanual - Knock sensing

Go junkyard hunting for the sohc24v motors and see if the knock sensor and bridge can work on the 12v. probably the easiest way if it does...

donuts? lol

i need my LS retainers to come in. I want to get the heads together first.

I need to get hold of a compressor powered polishing wheels to i can clean up the ports on the heads. Then i need to get the heads to the machine shop to get resurfaced and guides installed. Then i can install my springs and rocker assembly. Then onto the block (i think)

curious, my guides are for 93 3.0 from rock auto. the guides dont have clips on them.. does the shop reuse the clips from the old guides?
