this is how the poor car sits now after the a604 just stopped working does not even have second fluid looks fine but acts as if it's in neutral and sounds like a bunch of rocks in a blender

i finally decied hwo i am going to mod the car original plan was to just swap in a 2.5 turbo and intercool it but the cheapest i was able to find was $700 for just the long block and 125k so it would still need a rebuild

the 3.0s i can find all day long for 200 or less with 40k on them in minivans. one is actualy in a 96 and i plan on taking the a670 that is in it for a 3 speed swap (bad knee says no manual)

so this brings me to the questions i have. with converting to MS-II how can i go about wiring in a voltage regualtor? seeing as factory the the voltage regualtor is in the ECU. my plan is to use the voltage regualtor form my 88 diplomat would this work?

second question what are the stock cam specs? i knwo they are vary mild becuase when the car idels it is dosile and what are the specs on the diamonte(sp) cams? what to see if they are even worth swapping in or just go a had and get regrinds

the end goal is a turbo but that will not be for a wile.

Just keep in mind that there are slight differences in the 96+ motors mainly the exhaust outlet and the lack of the coolant temp sender for the dash(at least on the one I got). You will be happy with the A670 as far as reliability mine has 215000+ miles on it(odometer not working for an unknown number of miles) and is still going strong. I have even neutral dropped it at 50 mph accidentally (I need a reverse manual valve body!) and it just squeeles the tires and keeps going. The 96+ A670s are even stronger

The voltage regulator is easy to wire in. There is a green wire from the alternator and a blue wire in the harness. Wire those to the same color on the pig tail you can get from RockAuto and you are done...

If you want the best of both worlds, I sell a turbo header for the 3L! :)

ill have to check how i did my voltage regulator with megasquirt, its easy though. i have one from an 84 omni.. make sure to get a pig tail for it too

make sure the 3spd you get dosnt take a computer (i know the 4spd does, but the 3spd dosnt last time i checked. this makes it easy with megasquirt)

if you need a tune to start off with, i have one that worked well for me. it would just need a little tweaking to get it to work right for you.. but it would be a good start

On the TM site there is a how-to on installing a external voltage regulator.

thanks i will check TM for the wirte up. i have a regualtor from my old 88 diplomat and the pig tail

as far as i know the a670 does not need a computer. i might have to wire itn a switch for the converter to lock up if it has a locking converter but i think that is it. it;s been a wile sense i last checked

and yesh the base tune would help a lot when i get that far. my plan is to get my smoky engine running on MS stok then after that is done pull it and build it up a but and run it N/A then turbo

yeah make sure you get megasquirt running enough to do WOT pulls before you do any rebuilding. Its a pain to get a fresh motor tuned quickly so you can break it in right away.

im going to upload the tune i ran before i went turbo. it worked for me just fine.. you might need to change a few settings to get it to actually start your car but we will worry about that later.

there is no TCM so to speak the lockup solenoid is hooked to the SBEC/SMEC and shift points are controlled by a TV cable(or rod on my 87). The TCC solenoid is just powered directly from 12v so a switch works. I have a lockup switch for in town driving and let the computer take over on the highway. Maybe one of the extra outputs on MS could be set up to ground the solenoid?

just bought a 89 caravan as a parts vehicle has a freshly rebuilt a670 3 speed with less then 5,000 miles on it. the 3.0L has the james bond smoke screen option going on and a leaking front crank seal with it running it can run out of oil in 6 minutes lol i timed it

i mainly bought it for the trans. what other parts can i possibly use off of it before i scrap it?

Keep the motor, trans, as much of the engine harness as you can get out, ecu, wheels, any suspention parts that will swap over. (Front swaybar might, cant remember...)
