ok, here is the path i would take. first you wont have to go into the lower end of the motor BUT,it would help if you did. First, get a set of stage 2 ported heads from KM performance,2nd a set of regrind cams from some one like Crower, 3rd megasquirt. i would get the MS3 and use the ignition from like a dodge 3.3/3.8 or like I did an ignition from a 3000gt/stealth. another ignition is the ford edis. next get a set of headers made for your car and run 3 inch exhaust to the rear. install a walboro 255 fuel pump and a new adjustable fuel pressure regulator. use jeep 4.0 spark plugs. if you want to really help the motor replace the stock pistons for a set of 10:1 pistons from a 95 Mitsubishi Diamante rock auto sells them new! stick with the factory crank pulley, you'll need to to install the crank trigger wheel for the distributorless ignition. Also your intake. get a lower from a montairo and build a custom intake with a 90mm throttle body from a Q45! it is a great throttle body and will give you great throttle response with out being hard to drive! if you want to go cheaper keep the distributor and not use the megasquirt and just go with Emanage blue. it will increase your fuel with out effecting the ignition.
