8o Well I tried to purchase the tweeters yesterday at the local Circuit City (for $69.00)and they were out,:'( The salesman told me that they were $99, I went to Circuit City .com and they have them on sale at $49.95 }( http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/Searc...go.x=16&go.y=3
BUT!!! At the website it would not let me order online, so I called the 1-800 number and they told me that they were out of stock and would email me when they get them in, also he was not sure I would get them at that price ??? Does not seem right to me ??:'( I am a little psssssssst!!!

Yeah, you have to REALLY watch circuit city. The last several purchases I made I had researched the website first and found a lower price than in the store and the store clerk went on the website and honored that price. Stick to the guns!

I had to check a couple of different circuit city's until I found them, but it was worth it. I'd check around and see if there are other stores around that might carry them.

I just lucked into the set I found, they only had 3 left, cause I was going in there to ask the sound tech where else I could find them.

But they have to match their web page price! Good luck!

I went to google and found the speakers at several different places. I ended up putting in an order at CarDomain.com. There were $56.57 including tax and 1 day shipping.

Well !!! I do not believe this, I just got a email saying that they have them available and a link to the web site, even though they are in stock at my local store when I checked out to pay with credit card, it says out of stock local and will ship Free!!! Now that is good business??? Oh Well!! I do not care as long as I get them !!! I might have to ask another ? You did not tell me how to get to those back speakers to hook up. When I get them in I will just see what I can do and if I have a problem I will email you. Thanks Again for all the info. on this.

Yeah, all the circuit city's I checked showed out of stock. But lot's of times if their in stock number falls below a certain number they list it as out of stock. The store I found them in showed them as out of stock also, as did all the other stores in the area. I just happened to walk in, to ask if there was anywhere else to get the speakers, and they had 3 sets of them.

Here's some additional pics. I thought I had taken more of the process, but I guess not.

Basic DIY for the speakers:

Basically to take the cover off the basket handle/rollbar pull the rubber strip out of the center and then you can use a thin/narrow screw driver and pop the white fasteners loose, see picture. Try turning the tip while under the fastener, otherwise you may scar the exterior molding.

I used a drill mounted hole saw, matched it to the size of the inside of the speaker cup, and placed the speaker cup on the inside of the molding in the center of the black square, 2 of them you can see from the inside of the roll bar cover that has the lighting. I drilled a pilot hold, using the speaker mounting cup to center the hole. Then turned the cover over and drilled the hole for the speaker cup from the under side of the molding. I also used a small file to smooth the edges and clean them up.

The sides have to come out to get to the rear speakers, you have to fold the seats up to get to the plastic fasteners that are behind the head rest bar where the rear seats folded down from. One is a pain in the (&(*& to get to...I popped it out with a long handled screw driver and didn't put it back. But you can see all the other plastic pop outs and bolts.

I ran the speaker wires in the same paths as the wiring for the stock lighting, but after getting below the window level I kept it tied off to other wiring already there. Used some electrical tape to hole in places and the wire is longer than needed, so I wrapped it up and tied it off to the support posts that hold the rear speakers in place. Yeah I could have cut it, but oh well I wanted to get done. Make sure to check your wire routing well, make sure it doesn't interfere with any moving objects!!

The seat belts come out. Here's a tip...re-fasten the bottom anchor bolt of the seat belt to the floor AFTER you have buckled up the seat belt and verified it is running straight and not twisted. This keeps you from finding out later that you twisted the seat belt and then having to take the bolt out again to straighten it....oh well someone had to learn it!

After you get the first one out, the other one is a breeze.

Peace,
T

OK, so I forgot some minor details.

But when you take the bolts out of the seat belt anchors, you will need to pull some of the molding in the door frame also but that's ok because it just pops out. The tricky thing was to get the plastic piece off the rear door side anchor that bolts the seat down. The plastic piece on the inside if it is the key.

You should see it as you get to taking the puzzle apart. Yeah it's a little work but well worth it in my opinion!

I just finished installing the speakers in the "roll bar" and after getting the right side panel out, I found that by taking out the back seats the installation was so much easier.}})

SWEET!

I knew someone who had a little more experience with these cars would help tweak the process!

How long did it take?

The first side I did with the seats still in place took about an hour to get the back panel out and the speaker wire routed. With the seats removed it only took an hour to remove the seats replace the back panel, remove the other side panel, route the wire and put everything back together.
Of course it is so much easier with the convertible top down.

LOL, yeah it does make it much easier to drop the top!

How do they sound? Can you tell a difference?

I can tell a difference in the quality of music I listen to, it really enhances good radio broadcasts or good CDs.

Ok so did ya'll splice them into the rear speakers? Also do you have stock radio's? I too am looking for a little more volume that is clear when going down the highway. Living in NC my top is down a lot. I have heated seats and know why. I am in the process now of coming up with a way to keep my stock unit and still able to hear it well with the top down. The sound in the back seems to get lost with the top down. OK thanks for the help. Oh on the rear seat removal, mine are out more then there in makes for better cargo area that way. Its amazing you just remove that little strap that holds it on, remove the little plastic pieces at the floor move the front seats forward and roll them out like a van seat.

Mine is still a stock system, and yes I spliced them into the rear speakers. The speakers I bought had a suppressor in them and they sound great!

The sound is great even at highway speeds, but yes I would like to increase the volume also. Perhaps next spring.
