Swapping in a manual would be more bang for your time/cash. The 2.5 would be more peppier in the lower revs. Though the 2.2 might be "fun" with a 523 and a 3.77fd. You wouldn't need to swap the pump just the ecu. You could use a tall block 2.5, but any would do. While you are swapping the engine you might as well pull the head and mill it to bump up the CR a little. 2.2dodge/allmotor knows a lot about doing na stuff so you will want to look into his past posts for some info.

just do it. absolutely nothing has to be changed to make it work. i put in a 2.5 into a lancer that had a 2.2 for my father. I noticed more torque even used the 2.2 computer and ran that car for 3 years until it was totaled by a drunk driver that put my dad into the hospital with a fractured sternum.

I did the same thing in a SL with a turbo. The 2.5L was so much nicer to drive around town.

I used the stock 2.2L computer with zero drivability issues even though some of the gurus told me that I would never be able to do it.

Your computer will be running a bit leaner with the 2.5, but it will likely be fine. I have run my 2.2 TBI shadow on 2.2 and 2.5 computers and it ran about the same on either. I have a 2.5 SBEC if you want it. I swapped a 2.2 in and the 2.5 that came in the car out, as I don't like the 2.5. I was tired of listening to it knock and rattle. The 2.2 is much quieter, smoother (even without balance shafts) and nets me an extra 1-2 mpg.

Hmm.....I was told that the 2.5 ran smoother and quieter....do you think it is worth even doing for a small increase in power?

All things equal, the 2.5 probably is quieter and smoother, but the only ones I have had were noisy and frightfully raucous when revved to redline. I expect the added torque of the 2.5 might be worth the effort, especially in a heavier car. I just have never been bitten by the 2.5 bug.
