Sorry, new to the forum, and wasn't sure where to ask this question.
Recently inquired on info. for my brother's '92 Lebaron GTC with 2.5 turbo, and you guys helped a lot, unfortunatley we havn't had time to work on it.

Here is the deal:
I own a 2002 Dodge Dakota which is my pride and joy. I was shopping for beaters to drive to keep the miles off of the truck and came across a MINT '89 Daytona Shelby. It has 135,000 miles on the 2.2 turbo, and appears to be in emaculate shape. He is asking $2,200. I am strongly considering this if someone could give me advice.
I've read a lot on the 2.5s, but nothing on the 2.2s. Are they really the same? And what was so special about the Shelby?

I also came across an '87 Daytona Shelby Z, but it was a little shady with ALL new parts, and they wanted $3200...Thats a little high.

take the '89!!! 2.2 and 2.5 share the same block. The difference is the crank and pistons. The 2.2's make more power above 5000rpm because their stroke is shorter. Depending on the Shelby you get you may enjoy many features such as tighter suspension, forged internals, leather interior, T-tops, body package, etc. Great cars, I miss my ShelbyZ

Just so you understand it's a 17 year old car that things will break on it and it'll have to be fix/repair from time to time.

Oh yeah, I'd say you oughta take it dude. But bargain down maybe a bit. The 2.2's are what turbos are all about, and yeah, everything breaks but as with all 80's mopar it's cheap and easy to get replacement parts. Go get em tiger.

Whats a good price? He's asking $2,200, and I though by the shape of the car that was a pretty fair price. See if I can talk him down to maybe $1800 or something?

If I get this peticular car, it won't be to keep miles off of the truck...I will have it for a couple weeks before it goes on jack stands for the winter.

$2200 is good price, if it is decent running shape and needs nothing.

Personally I'd go with the '89. I prefer the '89 electronics as compared to the '87's, and the '89 has the more desireable 2.5" exhaust, assuming both were kept stock. The difference between the 2.2 T2 which both cars should have, and the 2.5 T1 is that the 2.2 T2 came with the larger garret turbo, vs. the mitsu on the T1, and the 2.2 has an intercooler if it's a real shelby car, while the 2.5 does not. You can learn all about everything at www.thedodgegarage.com where you can also see how he built up a 12 second shelby daytona with basically all stock/junkyard/cheapo parts.
