86 omni glht. got in tonight started up fine,got about 3 miles down the road and dash lights started to dim,headlights started to dim ,power loss light came on ,car started sputtering then just died.tried to start back up,but starter just clicks. am i correct in assuming its the altenator?? thought maybe the battery but if the car is running and the altenator is good it should keep enough juice in the battery to stay running ,correct?

Sounds like your alt. quit and then the car ran off the battery until it went dead.

Have the alt. tested, replace if necessary, and charge up the battery.

Volatage regulators are notorious for blowing out on these. You may want to consider an external VR swap if this is the case (in FAQ section). There is a good troubleshooter here:
