I seem to recall that our cars are supposed to keep the cooling fan running even after we shut the key off if its quite hot out. (88 daytona T1 btw). I've been driving the car for 10 years and I can't really remember it ever happening. Today was really hot and I was on a long highway drive with the a/c on. When I shut the car off the fan kept running. I thought odd since the temp wasn't high (highway driving) but alright. I came out 20 minutes later and the fan was still running so I unplugged it.

My question now is, was that normal? It was hot today but the temp gauge looked very normal and its not something I'm used to ever happening. Is this normal behavior or do I have a stuck relay or bad sender or something?

I've also had this happen a couple times on hot days. I think its the relay sticking, I pull the negative battery cable for a while and it stops usually.

my 94 2.2NA did this from time to time. But shut off within a few minutes.

look over your cooling system, coolant level, connection to the sensor and relay. Get the engine warm and make sure there is pressure in the raditor hose. I believe this is normal, the time you say it was on would worry me also. This sounds like a good time to do a once over on everything that is involved with the cooling system.

I had this happen on my 85 LeBaron GTS back in the day, I unplugged the relay, the relay clicked/fan shut off, plugged the relay back in, and the fan didn't come back on. Sounds like you have a sticky relay, as already posted by Endo, but I would say just unplug the relay.

LM and SMEC cars the fan comes on when the ECU has key-on power and the coolant temp sensor is at 212 or higher. On SBEC cars, the engine has to be running for the fan to kick on.

Hope this helps.

The reason I pull the battery cable instead of just the relay, is that mother can get HOT if you dont notice the fan running all the time right away. Dont ask me how I figured this out... In any case, it is easier to just pull the relay, but dont be a bonehead and just grab the sucker, use a rag or something

None of my TD's or non-turbo Dodges have ever had a key-off fan mode. You take the key out, fan turns off no matter how hot it is outside. I wasn't aware it was even an option on these cars. Always thought about adding it though. The VW I have here does keep the fan running after shutoff. Seems like a good idea to me.
