bent intake vavle ???

i know that your are really not able to bend a vavle but i did . the first thing that happend was i jump my timing belt . then i rest timing and started it and it was only running on 3 cylinders , so i did a compresson test found that #2 cylinder was 0 psi . so i pulled the vavle cover and saw that the rocker had fallen off , and the intake vavle was about a 1/4 of the way down . i thought that these motors where non-interfearance ? how the hell did i manage to bend a vavle ?

2.2/2.5L are Non-Interferance Engines. Possible the Rocker/Valve problem occured first and caused the Belt to Jump.Did the Vehicle Backfire? Are both Valve Keepers in place?

good thinking, my thought was maybe the head got milled too much, but I am not sure it could be milled that far to make the valve hit.

both of the keepers are in place . the valve is stuck about 1/4 of the way down . i tried to pry a little under the valve spring to bring it back up but did nothing . i guess i will have to pull the head to find out what really happend .

or i was thinking that is could be a broken valve seat or i droped the valve seat . i dont know i think i bent the damn thing , oh well i have to pull the head off tomorrow .

The valve could be just stuck because of carbon deposit. Hit it with a hammer and see what happens. It might just pop right out.

Absolutely try this. Don't be brutal about it though. The same thing happened on my Lancer and I just popped the rocker back in and it was fine.

How long has the engine been missing?

this motor has only 3000 miles on the motor . and i have only had the head on for about a week . so i dont really think there is any carbon on the valves yet . i will pull the head today and see whats up . i will let you know thanks guys for the help

well i found what happend , i droped a valve seat just like thought it was . is this somethinng that happend often ?

I think its more likely to happen to an engine thats been overheated, ive had many of these engines and ive broke a lot of stuff but never dropped a valve seat

really , well i gess i will have the head checked out tomorrow . i never over heated it . this head is like new it has only about 1000 miles on it . i think that when it jumped the timing belt . that it backfired threw the intake vavle and blew the seat out of the head . sounds a little crazy but i think thats what happend .

timing nor a backfire will absolutely NOT cause your problem. who ever worked on the head should have seen the seat was loose to begin with. I've seen some poor machine shops just tap a dropped seat back in, only to have it work loose again. when I fix this problem I replace the seat with an oversized OD seat and press it in.

yeah i droped the head off today ,they are going to check the other vavles and make sure that they are sealing right . the guys up there are really good at what they do so i will leave it up to them to get it done . i bought the head off some one on the fourms , about a month ago . he told me that it had a vavle job , must have not been good job . oh well it will be fixed this time .
