I was going through my error codes and I got this one

Code 13 - MAP Sensor, Vacuum.

When monitored

- From 600 to 1500 rpm and MAP signal with in voltage range.
When placed in memory - No change in signal between ignition pulses.

(description from here SMEC Fault Codes)

Do I need a new MAP sensor? Can I buy a 3 BAR MAP sensor for future upgrades and use it with a computer calibrated for a 2 BAR sensor?

look over your vacuum lines first. make sure they arent dried out and rotted or have a hole in them.

could this be causing my overboosting problems? or is it more likely a frozen up wastegate or wastegate actuator? the car has been sitting for a few years.

Your MAP is for fuel, your overboost issue is pobably a vacuum issue as well. I'd go through ALL your vacuum lines.

Are we talking about a Hard Fault(Light On) or Code in Memory?
I Definitely agree to check all vacuum lines for cracks, breaks, holes, and secure fit. Pay close attention to the molded hose that connects the Baro Solenoid to the MAP Sensor and check any Rubber Lines that may have been contaminated by oil or other fluids. If they become soft and swelled they may collapse with Vacuum applied.
On my 90 the MAP Sensor is on the Firewall behind the P/S Pump.

If the Code is in Memory the problem does not exist at this time.Map Sensor Circuit Malfunctions will turn on the Check Engine Light and the Vehicle will run in "Failure".
Are you having any Driveability Concerns or did you just find the Code in Memory and was wondering.

So the Car is not running right now.It is possible that you lost the Vacuum Supply to the Wastegate Solenoid or the Pressure Signal to the Wastegate which may have also set your Map Code since the Maze of Vacuum Lines all run to 1 -2 Manifold Sources.
Is the OE Plastic Vacuum Harness still in the Vehicle and is your Underhood Vacuum Diagram still there?

I bought a Chilton repair manual on cd-rom that has a vacuum diagram for my car. I was trying to find the wastegate actuator but couldn't find it, although I didn't look very hard. The car does run but there is a big loss in power and the engine kind of sputters. I'm thinking i bent a valve stem or something. Im sure the OE vacuum harness is still still in there.

If there is Engine Damage you will have to repair that first as this will cause a loss of Vacuum and will affect most systems.
It is very common for the Plastic Lines to Crack and/or Break especially behind the Valve Cover. Also the Rubber Lines that are over the Trans are susceptible to Swelling from Fluid Contamination.
You are probably going to have to go over the entire Vacuum System and make Repairs to Damaged Lines The key is to take your time and then double check your work.Vacuum Line Problems are one of the most common Threads on this site.
We have all been there,I went Nuts for Hours the first time I had my Valve Cover off and the Lines Broke to the VNT and Purge Solenoids.

well i found a line going from the wastegate actuator that was disconnected so that is probably what is causing my overboost problems

For some reason the metal grounding thing on the spark plug in cylinder one was flattened on top of the electrode so I put in new plugs. Did a compression check and all the cylinders were at 100psi except for cylinder 2 which was at 120psi. I connected the vacuum line from the wastegate solenoid to the wastegate actuator. The engine seems to run fine except that it is in limp mode and wont go higher than 3,000 RPMs. No check engine light. Hmmmmmm....

Oh ya I also got code 51 which is a problem with the oxygen sensor. Except the check engine light would be on if it was causing a problem right?
