I drove the car for about 5 minutes and the engine temp meter just started to climb. How quickly should the car heat up?

My Lancer T1, with new radiator, goes just past midscale in about 7 minutes, then drops, as fan comes on, goes off when temp drops. Cycle repeats. If you let it idle, temp will rise and fall in a cycle. If it doesn't, something isn't right (coolant level, fan, waterpump, radiator or cap)

Probably not too much of a concern how fast it warms up as long as it doesn't overheat
