The engines will fit into the Omni. If you are only swapping the engine the axles would not be getting changed. I do believe the omni axles are not interchangeable with the minivan axles. I'm not sure how difficult it would be to wire in the 89 electronics into the omni. Is the omni fuel injected or carbed?

are you gunna put the 2.2 in the mini? that thing is gunna be a pig. The axels are different. And if the omni is carbed you are gunna have to put an electric fuel pump in it and i dont think the harnesses are a dirrect swap either

no way the harnesses will swap, omni is LM, mini is SMEC. You would be best getting a GLHS wiring harness and computer, but i dont know how hard they are to obtain. You could grab a t1 harness out of an omni or charger and convert it to t2

this is given that you are TBI, i dont know about carbed cars, I think they require alot more work.

the omni is carb.

i thought the best way for the swap is get a 89 caravan and used the van harness and computer and transfer everything on the omni.

It's really not _that_ bad, but I deffinately wouldn't recomend it. I have an 86 2.2L carbed mini. Of course it's a 5-spd so it's really not to horrible.

I put a 89 2.5 Turbo and the Turbo auto in my 84 Turismo..everything from the van went in.. I had to shorten the harness by six feet....Lots of fun and well worth it, check it out here if you like...

ok if you want to do a omni get a 88-90 omni TBI car and the harness's will inter change. with the van harness you will have to rewire the wipers for the omni becuse they will not work but its pretty easy to do.

if you want to use a LM/PM harness one out of a 86 new yorker turbo car will work.. i have done this swap on my 90 omni the 86 newyorker harness was the first to be swaped and it worked great!! and then i got a 89 mini harness and it ran great! couldnt drive in the rain untill i rewired it but it was fun.
hope this helps!!
