hey guys this is chris from socal, im new to the site i have an 86 daytona turbo that my grandma bought, i love the car, and so did my grandma (we lost her to congestive heart failure 2 weeks ago) and with that said i am practically obsessed with making this car run right so now heres the problem....

it happened today and has happened before so ill start from the beginning

the car was not running hot but was warmed up, i had gunned it cuz its just so damn fun to do in that car, the car has 67000 original miles on it, the car burped once ran fine for 5-6 more seconds then burped again i fought for the idle to return but it stalled, and i tried restarting and then gave it a min. thinking maybe i had flooded it with the jump on the gas or trying to keep it running, i put it in park waited about 2 mins turned the key it fired right back up

today: i was beginning to slow down to a red light, i hadnt gassed it from my last stop i had the car running steady at 2000rpms, when i began slowing down and instead of burping it just up and dies on me so im new to this whole thing and i dont kno how to do alot of things but any help anyone can give please help me

chris

Chris, Welcome to Turbododge! I will move this for you so it will get more attention. If you have any problems with the board, the staffs PM boxes are always open.
Good luck with the car.

Welcome to Turbo Dodge and I am sorry for your loss.
When the car stalled today did it start right back up? Is stalling on decel or when putting it in gear the only driveability concern?
If so it sounds like an AIS concern.(Automatic Idle Speed)
Clean the Throttle Body and AIS and set Base Idle and Reset the AIS.
The procedure is outlined in a "Sticky" "Help with Poor Idle" in the "Help" section.

You can buy throttle body cleaner at any parts store. If it is really caked up use a soft toothbrush to help remove the carbon buildup.
The entire procedure is listed in a "sticky" in the "help" section under "help with poor idle".
I usually recommend removing the throttle body from the vehicle to do this so you do not load the engine up with the cleaner,if you do replace the gasket, should cost about
$2.00.
Just remove the throttle cable(s),electrical connectors, vacuum lines and the 2 bolts.
If the screws for the AIS will not loosen use a little heat to loosen the factory loctite.

If you spray lots in the engine while it is running you may load up the engine and wash down cylinder walls and dilute lubrication. You are doing this procedure with the engine off and the TB off of the vehicle and it is an authorized repair by Chrysler.
I work at a dealership and we use "Mopar Throttle Body Cleaner" all the time. The only company I know of that does not want you to clean a throttle body is Ford because they use a special coating on thier throttle plate that is supposed to retard carbon buildup and will be damaged by cleaners(so they say).If a Ford TB carbons and there is a stalling condition Ford wants you to spend $300.00 and replace the TB.
If throttle body cleaner is harmful then direct chemical cleaning of fuel injectors must also be harmful since you are running only on the chemical with the vehicles fuel supply disabled and this is recommended by all manufacturers.

You do not have to remove the turbo you need to remove the throttle body.
Just remove the 2 electrical connectors, the vacuum lines, the throttle cable and the bolts that attach the throttle body to the intake.
You can do all of this yourself,it is not a difficult procedure.
The entire procedure is posted in a "sticky" in the "help" section under "help with poor idle"

They are not stupid questions but I had them make it a sticky because it was a lot of typing for a very common concern.

I am not into performance but the first upgrades would be air intake system and exhaust to help the engine breath easier. Just be careful with the muffler you choose, check on the laws in your area regarding excessive noise.
