alright, i'll probably get flamed for this, but since i've owned 5.0's stock and modded and TD's stock and modded i can give you my personal experience with them.
89 shelby daytona 5 speed 2.5" exhaust,+40s,3bar,18psi no cat, cummins intercooler
VS.
94 mustang GT vert(even heavier sn95 body style) 5speed catless 2.5" exhaust aluminum driveshaft still had the 2.73 gears at the time.
both these cars felt pretty quick but i have to say the shelby FELT faster consistently.
the one or two times i was actually able to race them against eachother both on the highway and from a dig with my nephew driving the shelby and me driving the stang the stang would walk away from the shelby no problem. and believe me guys i am a huge TD fan, i'm just relating one of my experiences. i was surprised at the time because seat of the pants feel said the shelby was certainly faster but boost can give that impression.
i think a large problem is a lot of the 5.0s from that era so beat they just arent running as well as they should, plus a lot of young kids cant drive for crap.
and as far as this particular race NOIMPORTS is going for he should be able to stomp the stang, the AOD trans sucked up a huge amount of power

my car feels really fast, but i raced my friends 08 cobalt (148hp) 5-spd, dont know curb weight, lowerd from a 40 roll. Barely pulled on him... from 40 to 90mph i was barely a car ahead of him.

I think the hybrid is too much for the boost level. Big turbos can make you slower if you don't use them. A good ported head, ported 2 piece, ported exhaust manifold and 3" exhaust is really a requirement for a hybrid on the street unless your running 30 PSI of boost.
That FM cam will bleed cylinder pressure the engine needs to make power as well. It is cheap and easy to bolt in a TBI or turbo roller. Try just that and turn up the boost and hit the track

Wow I just can't help not posting here. A good friend of mine used to own a 91 Daytona Shelby. He would claim to roll 5.0s all the time. At the time I had a 89 SHO only mods being a cat back and k&n. We raced and I pulled on him 5for 5. My SHO could not beat a 5.0 that was driven well.
Now, my brother curriently owns said Shelby. Some mods include head work, +1 valves, front mount Ic, TU header, and a GT30. One of my mustangs is what they call a full bolt on car. That is Heads cam intake exc.exc..
I can for the most part walk away from him in any gear.
But we're working to change that.

done right a good street Daytona should run 12s and is capable of better than 30 MPG. Which is impossible from any 5.0. To date my favorite old mustake is a 86 SVO. Hot Rods drag week saw an unlightened 4 banger running consistant 9.3s @ 147+ all week. And it doesn't chew fuel like a pig.

Yeah those SVO's were nice back in the day! They were setup some what like the SC was...koni adjustable struts/shocks, stiffer stiffer suspension, turbo intercooled 4 banger, except they were around 3200-3300 lbs curb weight and had 25 more hp/ 65 more lbs/ft of torque! While that SC was coming in pretty light @ about 2400-2500 lbs weight! As a youngster I always looked at that SVO as the closest thing we had to the Porsche 944 Turbo, when it truly was the Shelby GLHS L-bodies!

Sounds like either he used the secret equalizer on you (NO2) or you need check your a/f ratio and fine tune your car! You should have pulled at least 4-5 cars on him (depending on how far you ran) in a 1/4 mile of that rolling start!

I'm thinking you need to tune that TD.
I know the LX is light.
If this guy knows his mustangs, it's lighter and more powerful than stock.
The LX was a decent sleeper with the 5.0 badges pulled off and the usual mods.
Even better when you buy a 4-banger LX for $50 and swap in a 351 / 5-speed...
... ah, memories
