I just picked up an 85 GLH-T.

It starts just fine, however it runs sooo rich, it spits out black smoke and stumbles. When you rev it it stumbles more and just dies. I havent pulled the plugs yet but the previous owner said they are new, and just black from running so rich.

Anyways, the car is 100% stock and has 80k on it.

Anyone have any idea? Im told possible coolant sensor.

Start with basics. Codes? Vacuum hoses all OK?

Check the Cam timing to see if it is off a tooth.

+1 to the vacuum lines. Used to blow the map line off all the time road racing and it'd do the same thing. Are the plugs black?

Pull the vacuum line off the FPR & check for fuel. It could've ruptured. If it did, it would be sucking a lot of fuel into the manifold. If you don't know the fault code retrieval procedure, it's listed here:

Russ W. Knize's Automotive Page

There's a lot of great reading there, as well as these sites:

Figured it out...

It had a 1 bar map sensor installed.... Go figure!!

Well beating the hell out of the car didnt last, lol. Ive popped off the shifter rods twice now.

Damn turbo dodges.... Ive stayed away for so long for a reason! lol.

So current issues. Shifter rods suck ass ? (whats the fix/upgrade?)
It seems to "load" up with fuel and sputter after about 3 mins of driving. Shut it off, restart immediatly and its fine for another 3-5 mins.

Anyways, fun car, I cant wait (and hope) to get it running decent!!

No codes.

Damn turbo dodges because it always seems to be something. LOL
A few of my buddies have had turbo spirits, lebarons, minivans and omnis and they are ALWAYS doing something to it, lol.

Ah well, cant expect a stock 23 year old car to be all fun no work now can I?

I think I am going to look into just making the rods work, I dont want to put a whole lot of money or time into this car. I have an NYG to work on. hehe.

Does this car have a gold hatch?

If you want to sell it in the future let me know.
