here is the begining. wehn i bought the car i had to replace the altenator, junk bearings. shortly after replacing the altenator. i was having charging issues, it wasnt charging. so i put a battery from my truck in, which was a fairly new battery. still not charging. pulled codes, 16 and 47 came up. so after doing some reading, i figure i would try putting in an old style chrysler voltage regulator. it worked. no more jump starting. but now my voltage gauge would be at 18 on the highway with no accessories on. so i drove it for a few months like that. winter was here, so the heat and radio would be on and the gauge would drop down to normal.
so i finally break down and get a reman power module yesterday. figuring it would straighten out the overcharging issue, shut the annoying power loss light off and hoping it would help with some other running issues ive been having. well on my way home from work tonight my buddy, mr. power limited light, pops back up. hands were up in the air and flying around just as fast as i could spit obsenities out. now codes 16 and 47 are back to visit. why would this be with a new altenator, good battery and reman power module? gremlins maybe? please help. on a brighter note. the car is running smoother and has a little more pep. so it must have straightened out hte other issues. but i am ready to pull the bulb on the damned power limited light. thanx for your time.

+1 on the wiring. Your going to have to fix it sooner or later. External regulators = band Aid, driveability problems will continue, more things will fry.

There is a lot of charging info on this site.

wiring is all good. there is a kenwood amp tha the previos owner put in, that wiring im not to sure about. but i dont think that would set off those codes. would it.
thanks turbopac. ill let you know. i usually have sundays off.

Code 16 is loss of battery voltage sense
Code 47 is battery voltage low
You always start with the lowest code # first as 1 code may cause another to set.


DR-4 Fault Code 16 Battery Voltage Sensing Circuit
With diagnostic read-out tool connected to engine test connector, place system in Sensor Test Mode 07.
Connect a jumper wire between terminal Nos. 2 and 22 of logic module blue electrical connector.
If display on read-out tool is within 1 volt of battery voltage, check wiring from terminal No. 22 for an open circuit.
If display on read-out tool indicates no voltage, replace logic module.
CAUTION: Before replacing the logic module check the terminal in cavity No. 22 of the blue connector to make sure it is not crushed causing a poor connection.

DR-17A Fault Codes 47 or 41-47 Charging System
Connect a voltmeter between battery terminals.
Connect a jumper wire to a good engine ground.
Start engine and note voltmeter reading.
Contact other end of jumper wire connected to engine ground to alternator F2 terminal and note voltmeter reading.
NOTE: The alternator field terminals (F1 and F2) of the engine wiring harness on Shelby Chargers and GLH models are interchangeable. Therefore, it will be necessary to identify which one is F1 (ignition switch feed) and which one is F2 (field control to the power module) before performing the test.
If voltmeter indicates an increase in voltage reading, proceed to Test 17 step B.
If voltmeter does not indicate an increase in voltage reading, proceed to Test 17 step F.

DR-17B Checking Charging System Field Circuit
With engine operating, connect a voltmeter between logic module blue electrical connector terminal No. 2 and ground.
Connect a jumper wire to terminal No. 5 of logic module red electrical connector.
Momentarily contact other end of jumper wire connected to logic module red electrical connector to logic module stud and note voltmeter reading.
If voltmeter indicates an increase in voltage reading, replace logic module.
CAUTION: Before replacing the logic module check the terminal in cavity No. 5 of the blue connector to make sure it is not crushed causing a poor connection.
If voltmeter does not indicate an increase in voltage reading, proceed to Test 17 step C.

DR-17C Checking Control Wire to Power Module
Place ignition switch in Off position, then disconnect logic module red electrical connector.
Connect a voltmeter between logic module red connector terminal No. 5 and ground.
Place ignition switch in Run position and note voltmeter reading.
If voltmeter reading is within 1 volt of battery voltage, proceed to Test 17 step E.
If voltmeter reading is 0 volts, proceed to Test 17 step D.

DR-17D Checking Power Module Circuit
With ignition switch in Off position, disconnect power module 12-way electrical connector.
Connect a voltmeter between power module 12-way connector terminal No. 11 and ground.
Place ignition switch in Run position and note voltmeter reading.
If voltmeter reading is within 1 volt of battery voltage, check wiring from terminal No. 5 of logic module red electrical connector for an open circuit.
If voltmeter indicates no voltage, replace power module.

DR-17E Checking Power Module Circuit
With ignition switch in Off position, disconnect power module 10-way electrical connector.
Connect a voltmeter between power module 10-way connector terminal No. 8 and ground.
Place ignition switch in Run position and note voltmeter reading.
If voltmeter reading is within 1 volt of battery voltage, replace power module.
CAUTION: Before replacing the power module check the terminal in cavity No. 8 of the 10-way connector to make sure it is not spread apart causing a poor connection.
If voltmeter indicates no voltage, check wiring from terminal No. 8 to alternator for an open circuit.


DR-17F Checking For Voltage to Alternator Field
With ignition switch in Off position, connect a voltmeter between alternator F1 terminal and ground.
Position ignition switch in Run position and note voltmeter reading.
If voltmeter reading is within 1 volt of battery voltage, check alternator and repair as necessary.
If voltmeter indicates no voltage, check wiring from alternator F1 terminal to ignition switch for an open circuit.
