Hey guys, I have a 1990 Dodge Daytona, Auto, with a 2.5L N/A. When I got it the guy said it needed a new fuel pump, and it would only run for about 2 seconds then it would die. I got a new inline fuel pump for it, hooked it all, and it sends fuel no problem thats not it, but i will not run for 6 seconds, and 10 every now and then. I also took the throttle body apart, cleaned it, and put it back together, i did now put new gaskets in or o-rings or anything, but it ran the same before. Anyone else have this problem? Solutions? If i cant get it running soon my dads going to take it to a junk yard, please help! Thank You

First things first: Have you checked the codes?

If you're getting NO CODES at all than theres a problem with the ECU or wiring to it. It should at least have a code telling it's at the end of the self check mode. Make sure you got good grd + power to it as well as power to the coil. It sure sounds like an electrical problem to me. Also try running a jumper wire to the pos side of coil, may be an ign. sw. problem.

Plugged fuel filter? (try bypassing it temporarily to prove the concept)

Even with throttle depressed 25% it will not run?

Try disconnecting the O2.

So it starts nice and then dies? my guess is the hep is bad or the wiring, when you turn the key on it primes the pump. Then it gets no signal for fuel and the fuel runs out since it is not getting a cranking signal and the computer does not activate the asd. Just a guess.

That could be but most HEP probs like that would not let it run for 6-10s each and every time. Move the wiring at the HEP around, connectors. if no change that's _probably_ not the cause.

After it runs for the 6seconds can you cycle the key off and it just fires right up? Or does it have to sit for a few seconds until it will start?

If it has to sit for a little bit do you still have good fuel pressure at the rail? Is there still spark?

Does the car have a Factory Alarm? IF so, or If not sure; Lock and Unlock the driver door using the key. Then try starting it.
I don't think this is the problem, because if it is factory alarm issue, it will usually only let the car run for 2 seconds max. And you say it has ran up to 10 seconds. But thought it was worth mentioning.

It will run when i give it gas, and it will rev, for the 6 seconds....but accurately when i give it gas it normally runs shorter. and it will start fine and run fine for the few seconds, if i recycle it will start right up, it does not need to set. Now, im not sure were or what any of that stuff you guys were abbriviation is...so some help with names please? Thanks again for the response
