My car has been sitting for quite some time now after I rebuilt the TII engine, and with fuel prices soaring I wanted to start driving the car to work.

When I first start it it'll die unless I keep giving it gas. After a couple of minutes it'll start loping just to the point dieing then it will idle back up. Then I'd say after 5 minutes of babying it it'll finally idle and run with no problems.

Some of the things I've gone over... fuel pressure, vacuum leaks, cleaned the throttle body, new plugs. The only codes I get are my usual 12 and 33.

I'm starting to go nuts here guys..

I would check the timing, how long has it set? it may be the filter with gunk in it or the tank

I forgot I also reset the timing too... it's got a full tank of fresh gas.

The thing that get's me is after it warms up it will start and run great until it cools back down

my 87 daytona does that when the computer has had no power for a while. I drove it around a bit and it seems to learn to correct it. Did you check timing with the coolant temp sensor unplugged and at operating temp?

It sounds like a basic AIS concern since it is a cold driveway dieout concern.
I know you said you cleaned the TB but follow the instructions I posted in the "sticky"
"help with poor idle" in the "help" section to clean he TB housing, AIS pintle, set base idle and reset AIS.

Well I checked it all out and set the timing down a degree or two. and reset AIS. Hasn't changed a thing yet. It actually has become harder to restart after it's warm, cranks and cranks then when it finally fires it'll run and idle fine. I'll entertain any ideas at this point.

are you using a cal? i have never come across a calibration that dosnt cause some over fueling start up issues. just like you explaind, they will start up real rich and try to die without throttle for the first 30 seconds or so, then it will chug for a bit, then run great. shut it off, start it right back up, and itll do it again. its cause the cal has tables to add fuel untill the o2 sensor warms up, then once its warm, it takes over and corects the mixture. for some reason, nobody has come up with a solution or way to fix the cal issue.
i have FWD cals, and lots of custom cals, and they ALL do it on any engine.

I am running a Stage 5 FWD-P cal. So I'm stuck with it huh...

Sounds like you would be the one to ask and get a good response from! Running the S5 and +40's I wanna knock it down to about 10psi. What would you recommend setting the timing and fuel pressure at. All I am looking for is driving it back and forth to work for a while and didn't want to run the 22psi I originally set the car up for.

well, we found your problem! i have 2 FWD cals. a regular stage 5, and a "custom" FWD stage 5 and they both do it, as well as 4 other cals i have run before made by 4 difforent people. i have talked to lots of people about this "rich start up" issue and nobody ive talked to knows how to correct it.
itll start up nice when its real cold outside if thats any conolation
but otherwise, youll have to live with the 30 seconds to a minute it takes for the o2 sensor to warm up and start reading and take over for the cals horibly calibrated start-up tables.
