OK so I just bought a motor that was "recently rebuilt", I took the head off just to be safe and check things out and it was rebuit but on the head..........three of the combustion chambers are nice and flat black carbon but the 4th one(#4 cyl) is shiny and has a slightly wrinkly finish.

My question is what would cause this? a blown headgasket?
I just want to make sure its not a popped piston, that would suck. Im getting lazy in my old age.

Thanks for any info.

i forget which ones but some cylinders recycle egr (dunno which head im thinking of ive been looking at so many lately) which tends to give it a cleaner look. I'd get the head checked and decked for good measure and put a new mopar gasket on her.

And new head bolts. What year engine? Common blocks T1's have no EGR. Usually coolant leak wash, cylinder wear/ poor ring seal or leaking injector to wash a comb.chamber. Turn the engine over and have a good look at the cylinder walls for uglies. And hope it isn't the rings.

Its a 2.2L from a 90 VNT, the pistons look amazing but its just the one comb. chamber on the head. its shinny black, not clean. looks like oil deposits to me. Ill try to get some pics up.

Thanks everyone
